Description

The Business Development Manager, New Product Design is responsible for generating net new business by identifying and developing opportunities where customer needs align with new product design and engineering capabilities. This role operates at the intersection of customer insight, technical feasibility, and commercial execution. The position is highly customer-facing and works closely with engineering and internal teams to convert early-stage concepts into qualified opportunities and revenue.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Generate net new business opportunities focused on new product design and development
  • Engage directly with customers to understand application requirements, design challenges, and future product needs
  • Identify early-stage design opportunities and influence specifications in favor of company capabilities
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to assess feasibility and define solution approaches
  • Qualify and advance design-driven opportunities through the sales pipeline
  • Translate customer needs into clear technical and commercial value propositions
  • Support proposal development, technical discussions, and design reviews with customers
  • Build and maintain a pipeline aligned with new product and growth objectives
  • Track and report performance against scorecard metrics including leads, opportunities, and revenue contribution
  • Conduct ongoing market and industry mapping to identify target segments, key customers, emerging applications, and competitive dynamics; proactively develop industry-specific leads and early design opportunities aligned with company growth and capability strategy
  • Provide market and customer feedback to inform product and capability development
  • Conduct regular domestic travel across the United States to engage with customers and support sales initiatives
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand engineering concepts, manufacturing processes, and design-for-application considerations; able to translate technical details into customer-facing value.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, execute, and adjust a market and opportunity development plan, including industry mapping, target account identification, and pipeline strategy.
  • Customer-service–oriented mindset with a focus on responsiveness, trust-building, and long-term partnership development.
  • Self-directed and proactive, showing strong personal initiative in identifying opportunities, pursuing leads, and advancing concepts without requiring constant oversight.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills to manage multiple opportunities concurrently and drive them to defined outcomes.
  • Data- and results-oriented, with experience tracking market activity, pipeline progress, and performance against defined objectives.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a performance-driven environment
