Our mission: to unlock the voice of the customer for every product team on the planet.
About the Role
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Unify team—a cross-functional group of 7-10 engineers already staffed with senior engineers, responsible for data ingestion, our AI-powered taxonomy system, the analytics engine, and the interfaces and microservices that power them. You'll partner with a Staff Engineer who owns cross-cutting architecture and technical vision, while you own execution, quality, and team health. The entire team reports to you.
Reports to: CTO
Location: Bangalore (in-office)
This role exists because the team needs dedicated leadership. The Staff Engineer has been shouldering managerial responsibilities, and we need someone who can take that load—protecting the team from chaos, improving how we ship, and reducing production incidents.
What You'll Do?
Drive Faster, Higher-Quality Delivery
Own cycle time from "ready for dev" to "production"—identify bottlenecks, remove them, measure improvement. Reduce production incidents through better practices (not more bureaucracy). Balance shipping fast with shipping safely—know when to push and when to slow down.
Protect the Team from Chaos
Establish how work enters the team—triage requests from Sales, CS, Support, and other stakeholders. Maintain a single prioritized backlog with the PM. Say "no" (or "not now") professionally while keeping relationships intact.
Partner with the Staff Engineer
Clear division: Staff Engineer owns cross-cutting architecture and technical direction; you own execution, process, and people. Neither of you should be a bottleneck to the other. Together, you're accountable for the team's outcomes.
Develop Engineers
Run effective 1:1s, give real feedback, help people grow. Identify and address performance issues early. Build a team people want to stay on.
Hire and Grow the Team
Own hiring for your team—source, interview, close great engineers. Build a high-caliber team that raises the bar.
What It Takes?
Required
- Strong IC foundation first — 4-5+ years as an engineer at scale or startups before moving to management; you've built platforms, done firefighting, and grew into leadership on merit (not just early promotion into people management).
- 3+ years managing engineers at teams of 3-8 people — seasoned enough to hit the ground running.
- Tenure and commitment — you've grown teams and stayed with them, not just passed through.
- Startup experience (Series B-D) — you know how to operate with urgency and limited resources.
- B2B SaaS or similar complexity — you understand enterprise customer expectations (or have dealt with equivalent technical/business complexity).
- Track record improving velocity — you can point to specific changes you made and the results.
- Track record on quality — you've reduced incidents or improved reliability (with numbers).
- Stakeholder management skills — you've handled competing requests from GTM teams without burning bridges.
Preferred
- Experience with cross-functional teams (front-end, back-end, platform, AI).
- Familiarity with data-intensive or analytics products.
- Companies with strong engineering cultures (you have reference points for "good").
Why Enterpret?
- Real problems to solve — The team needs you. This isn't a maintenance role; it's a turnaround.
- Strong technical partner — You'll work with a Staff Engineer who owns technical vision. You don't need to be the best engineer; you need to be the best manager.
- Direct CTO access — You report directly to the CTO with full visibility into company direction.
- AI-native product — Work on a product using LLMs at its core (OpenAI, Anthropic), serving customers who care deeply about what we build.
- Modern stack — Go for performance services, ClickHouse for analytics, AWS (Fargate, DynamoDB, RDS, S3), and coding agents to automate engineering workflows.
- Meaningful ownership — Significant equity in a venture-backed company with real traction.
