About this role
Who we are:
Glydways is reimagining what public transit can be. We believe that mobility is the gateway to opportunity—connecting people to housing, education, employment, commerce, and care. By making transportation more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we empower communities to thrive and unlock economic and social prosperity.
Our mission is to revolutionize transit with a solution that delivers high capacity, exceptional user experiences, unmatched affordability, and minimal environmental impact.
The Glydways system is a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, interconnected transit pathways powered by standardized autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. Operating 24/7 with on-demand access, it offers personalized and efficient mobility—without the burden of heavy upfront infrastructure costs or ongoing taxpayer subsidies.
With Glydways, we’re building more than a transportation system; we’re creating a future where everyone, everywhere, has the freedom to move.
The Role:
As an Industrial Design Intern, you won't just be sketching cool cars. You will be working on a complex system of systems. You will contribute to the design of the Glydcar vehicle (interiors, ergonomics, and exterior form) as well as the physical touchpoints of our transit stations and guideway infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Form Development: Generate innovative concepts that prioritize passenger comfort, accessibility (ADA compliance), and safety in an autonomous environment
- Digital Modeling: Build and iterate on complex surfaces using CATIA, NX, Solidworks, or Rhino to ensure designs are production-ready. Blender and Twinmotion are a plus.
- Human Factors: Conduct ergonomic studies to optimize the boarding and riding experience for a diverse range of users
- Prototyping: Assist in the creation of full-scale mockups and rapid prototypes in our South SF shop to test spatial layouts and material finishes
- Visualization: Produce high-fidelity renders and animations in KeyShot, VRED, or Twinmotion for investor and city-planning presentations
Requirements:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a BFA/BS or MFA program in Industrial Design or Transportation Design.
- Software Savvy: Proficiency in 3D modeling (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks or Rhino accepted) and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Maker Mindset: Experience with physical model making, 3D printing, and an understanding of manufacturing processes (composites, injection molding, etc.).
- Mission-Driven: A genuine interest in sustainability, urban planning, and the future of public transportation
Why Glydways?
- Work on a product that will actually hit the streets (projects currently underway in San Jose and Contra Costa)
- Collaborate with veterans from Apple, Google, Rivian, and Tesla
- Competitive intern stipend and the chance to be at the forefront of the "Climate-Tech" movement
