About the Role
As Senior Counsel Competition, you will play a pivotal role in the creation, development and execution of Haleon’s cross-functional global competition law compliance strategy.
Here, you will be strategic advisor to the business, provide in-depth, expert legal advice on a wide range of competition law issues, including behavioural, transactional, and contentious matters.
We are looking for an individual with a practical approach and a continuous improvement mindset who can combine legal and professional expertise and anticipate and solve problems.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Competition Law on the creation, development and execution of Haleon’s cross-functional global competition law compliance strategy.
- Provide in-depth, expert legal advice on a wide range of competition law issues, including behavioural, transactional, and contentious matters.
- Lead on Haleon’s responses to competition law related M&A filings, licence applications, investigations, litigation and information requests. Represent Haleon in front of relevant external enforcement agencies and bodies.
- Assess and advise on potential regulatory issues and reporting requirements. Monitor relevant legal trends and developments.
- Train and upskill local legal and the wider business on competition law related issues, empowering the latter to take the proper accountability for compliance risk identification and mitigation.
- Strategic advisor, helping to shape our future competition law strategy, in compliance with developing global legal frameworks
Core Competencies
- Significant experience in a legal advisory role with a specific focus on competition law gained in a law firm and/or working as in-house counsel in a multi-national organisation (ideally in the pharma, healthcare or FMGC sector).
- Expertise in international competition law and practices with an in-depth understanding of the implementation of associated compliance frameworks, policies and processes.
- Experience defending companies who are the target of competition law enforcement, investigation and (ideally) experience of the offensive use of competition law, to secure follow on damages
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence the highest levels of management and decision-making within Haleon
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and experience leading a network in a decentralized management structure
- Pragmatic, business-orientated mindset
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Experience liaising with regulators and representing the company before Government and enforcement authorities, including merger filings.
Required:
- University degree and qualified lawyer admitted to practice in England & Wales or another jurisdiction within EMEA.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Competition Law, economics or a related discipline
