12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Edinburgh (We believe in the power of in-person collaboration, and our hybrid model requires colleagues to be in the office a minimum of 40% of their time)  

Salary: A competitive salary from £28,160 – £42,240 (effective from April 2026) depending on the experience you can bring

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Finance Assistant to join our Finance Operations team here at Aegon in Edinburgh. This team plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial transactions across Aegon UK.

From managing cash receipts and payments, to maintaining the general and purchase ledgers and handling reporting breaches, the team ensures our financial operations run smoothly and to the highest standards.

As a Senior Finance Assistant, you’ll be responsible for delivering the day‑to‑day activities that support our financial controls, reporting, and operational processes. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our accounting records are accurate, compliant, and ready for inclusion in month‑end financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Complete daily journals, accruals, and prepayments
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare Trustee cash books and support wider financial reporting
  • Carry out financial analysis, recharges, banking activities, and ledger checks
  • Ensure all financial controls are operating effectively before reporting deadlines
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting or process anomalies
  • Share your expertise with colleagues through coaching, training, and promoting best practice
  • Work closely with stakeholders to reduce financial risks and improve processes

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong knowledge of financial services accounting and finance environments
  • Solid understanding of general ledger and technical accounting 
  • Good general accountant knowledge with confidence across core accounting principles
  • Experience with financial controls and reconciliations
  • Awareness of back‑office processes and banking systems
  • Experience working within a large finance team, ideally in financial services or regulated environment
  • Proven analytical thinking and strong problem‑solving skills

  • We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place.  We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%.  If you decide to contribute more, we’ll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that’s 7% from you and 13% from us).
