The Role We Want You For
The Project Accountant plays a key role supporting project teams and accounting leadership by managing day-to-day project financial activities and assisting with core accounting functions. This role requires a solid working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost systems, project accounting, and client invoicing. The Project Accountant serves as a critical point of contact for Project Managers regarding project financial status and ensures accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across systems.
The Specifics of the Role
- Prepare and enter invoices into the accounting system accurately and timely in accordance with contract requirements
- Enter and maintain project budgets as required by Project Managers
- Set up contracts and maintain change orders
- Participate in contract brief reviews with Accounting Manager
- Prepare and distribute job cost, labor, and other financial reports as needed
- Set up and maintain subconsultant and subcontract agreements in accounting systems
- Coordinate receipt of vendor, subconsultant, and subcontractor invoices
- Respond to vendor and subconsultant inquiries regarding invoice and payment status
- Monitor contract and subcontractor values to ensure billings do not exceed approved amounts
- Support month-end close activities, including preparing accruals, journal entries, and other accounting-related duties as assigned
- Ensure data consistency across all systems
- Support project audits and internal reviews
Requirements
- Associate degree in Accounting or Finance is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2-4 years of project accounting experience; experience in Architecture & Engineering or construction-related environment preferred
- Hands-on experience with Deltek preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- JD Edwards experience preferred
