Senior Product Manager – Unified Infrastructure

Job Description

Senior Product Manager – Unified Infrastructure

About SUSE

At SUSE, we believe every business is on a journey of digital transformation, and that transformation can be enhanced and accelerated by open-source innovation. SUSE products and our processes are designed around the collective wisdom of our customers, community, partners, and employees.

About the Unified Infrastructure Initiative

In order to realise full customer value for users of SUSE’s expanding portfolio, we have established a group focussed on building a tightly integrated “all SUSE” underlying infrastructure framework to support modern applications. This framework will underpin a wide variety of SUSE solutions, enabling modern use cases like Edge, Telco, Cloud Native computing, and AI.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to drive the strategy and product development maturation of an all SUSE unified infrastructure framework.  In this role, you will act as the bridge between business realities and technical implementation. You will work with the Product Leadership Team, Distinguished Engineers, and internal development teams to ensure this new framework is simple to deploy and manage, efficient to work with, and accelerates our ability to innovate.

As this is a platform-centric role, your "customers" are often internal engineering teams. You will ensure that the platform we build solves their problems, allowing them to deliver value to the external market faster.

Key Responsibilities

As the owner of the Unified Infrastructure product strategy, you will:

  • Define Vision & Strategy: Articulate the product vision for unified runtime capabilities. Identify the target internal engineering teams and the key challenges that the unified infrastructure can solve for them.

  • Manage the Roadmap: Create and maintain the unified infrastructure roadmap, outlining key initiatives and capabilities over time, ensuring alignment with SUSE’s broader technical direction.

  • Own the Backlog: Take full ownership of the development backlog. Prioritize epics, user stories, technical debt, and bugs based on strategic value and architectural guidance.

  • Gather Requirements: Proactively synthesise requirements from the Distinguished Engineers, Engineering Leads, and open-source community needs, translating them into actionable specifications.

  • Collaborate with Engineering: Work in lockstep with Architects and Engineering Leads to understand technical feasibility and constraints. You will ensure requirements are technically sound and factor in the architectural runway.

  • Drive Adoption: Work with early adopter teams within SUSE to facilitate their integration with the unified infrastructure framework.  Continuously gather feedback on usability and feed this back into the roadmap.

  • Manage Stakeholders: Serve as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the development team. Manage expectations regarding scope, timelines, and priorities across the business unit.

  • Lead Agile Ceremonies: Actively lead backlog refinement sessions and participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as the product expert.

  • Monitor Success: Define and monitor key product metrics, including usage, performance, reliability, and adoption rates, to measure the runtime’s health.

Your Profile

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager who can chart a course between customer requirements and technical realities. You should be comfortable working directly with engineers and architects and have previous experience in delivering infrastructure software.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Product Management Mastery: Proven experience in Product Management, specifically managing technical products, infrastructure platforms, or developer tools.

  • Technical Fluency: A strong understanding of the Linux ecosystem and modern infrastructure (Kubernetes, Containers, Cloud-Native). You do not need to write code, but you must be able to understand the challenges of those who do.

  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to analyse complex challenges, reconcile conflicting requirements from different internal groups, and negotiate options at the executive level.

  • Strategic Thinking: History of evaluating empirical analysis and modeling to validate product designs.

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. You must be able to explain the "why" behind technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in working with open source community projects, preferably in the cloud native space. It would be highly desirable if you had experience with Kubernetes, Linux, and systems deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.

  • Experience with highly scalable, constrained, or highly-optimised infrastructure, e.g. HPC, Edge, Telco, or cloud environments. Knowledge of how systems are tuned and configured to adapt to these infrastructure types would be a strong differentiator.

  • Familiarity with programming languages and their ecosystem, e.g. Python, Rust, or Go, and an understanding of lifecycle and packaging of applications.

Why Join Us?

You will be stepping into a high-impact role where your work directly influences the foundation of SUSE’s future product portfolio. You will work with some of the smartest engineers in the open-source world and have the autonomy to shape how we build software for the next decade.
