We are looking for Systems engineer to work in Infrastructure Database Engineering Team. The infrastructure database Engineering team will actively involve in design, develop all database related activities used by Tesco Technology across our data centres. In this role system engineer will design and implementation of continuous integration, continuous delivery, automate database offerings/ releases and deployments in Public Cloud like Azure and On-prem

You will be responsible for
· Participates in Project meetings , design reviews and implement solutions based on business requirements as per Tesco standards
· Closely cooperate with second level support service team(s), provide third level support
· Actively work on automation wherever possible (maintenance, release management, monitoring, backups/recovery/refreshes ..)
· Define and implement database strategy, Capacity Planning and security standards, keep products on latest possible versions
· Drives IT solutions to ensure they meet the business needs balanced with a pragmatic and integrated approach to the design of technical solutions.
· Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
· Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
· Performs complex analyses and reviews applications being released into production.
· Provide your professional knowledges and skills to DEVS during the developments, analyze and tune the code, ensure that development satisfy Tesco standards
· Provide a strategic database direction for the organisation
· Working in a cross-cultural team and communicate effectively
You will need
· Fully familiar with any one of the database like MS SQL, Oracle , PostgreSQL , DB2 , Couchbase or any No SQL datbase
· Any exposure of database like NoSQL would be advantage
· Expertise in Database automation , building database platform, migration
· Intergrating Kubernates , using Terraform, Ansible
· Experince in DevOps practices , CI/CD , Azure Devops , Jenkins
· Good exposure in understanding the security compliances related to Databases
· Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
· Evaluate and test new features/functionality
· Advanced instance,sql tunning skills, database security and encryption knowledges
· Familiar with HA/DR concepts and solutions
· Have overall IT, infrastructure, programming knowledges and be able to work in DevOps environment
· Beneficial knowledges : Application servers, Oracle Financials, Exadata, DB2,MS SQL, webservices (REST/SOAP/JSON), Ansible, Hadoop, NOSQL
· Providing technical assistance
· Setup and maintain documentation and standards
· Fluent English communication skills
Activities
· Design, develop, and enhance automation for database provisioning, scaling, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.
· Implement and maintain processes for OS and database upgrades, patching, bug fixes, and vulnerability remediation
· Maintain and improve Infrastructure-as-Code assets, , Terraform modules, and related automation frameworks.
· Update and optimise CI/CD pipelines used for deploying, testing, and validating database configurations and automation workflows.
· Evaluate, test, and validate new database features, functionality, and architectural enhancements.
· Conduct Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs) for new tools, technologies, and platform improvements.
· Build scripts, utilities, and tools to support operational teams and reduce manual effort if any
· Support security audits, compliance initiatives.
· Collaborate with developers to help them to pick right database technology
· Partner with product management and architecture teams on platform design decisions, roadmap planning, and feature evaluation.
· Design and implement process improvements related to security, performance, automation, and feature adoption.
· Define, publish, and maintain database standards covering configuration, security, backup, recovery, and operational best practices.
· Work closely with infrastructure and platform teams to ensure alignment across compute, storage, and network components required for database platforms.
