Kitron is currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Chennai, India, who will play a key role in ensuring the smooth execution of our programs and an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of Automation.

Job Description:

  • Assist in developing conceptual models for new projects and improvements in production processes.

  • Create and modify 3D models using SolidWorks and prepare 2D engineering drawings/layouts.

  • Perform basic to intermediate engineering calculations under guidance.

  • Prepare detailed part and assembly drawings with proper dimensions and specifications.

  • Support selection of standard mechanical components such as pneumatic cylinders, motors, actuators, ball screws, LM shafts, linear guides, and bushes.

  • Apply knowledge of material selection (metals and non-metals), machining, fabrication, sheet metal, and post-processing methods.

  • Support manufacturing activities and follow standard manufacturing methodologies.

  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, support revisions, and follow ISO documentation standards.

  • Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and assembly teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with customer requirements.

  • Support machine assembly and assist in troubleshooting issues related to form, fit, and function.

  • Apply GD&T fundamentals in drawings; exposure to tolerance stack-up analysis is an added advantage.

  • Participate in design reviews and implement design changes as per engineering documentation procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.

  • 2–3 years of experience in mechanical design for SPM / automation / machine-building projects.

  • Hands-on experience with SolidWorks and basic working knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Basic understanding of ISO and ASME standards; knowledge of DIN standards is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).

  • Willingness to learn and grow in a project-driven engineering environment.
