Job Description
To provide accurate, timely and insightful financial measurement and reporting for major projects and programmes. The role is pivotal in analysing and applying financial control over project spend, project benefit tracking, alignment to approved business cases, and compliance with banking regulatory requirements (governance standards). Supports PMO, Finance, and senior stakeholders with trusted financial insights to enable informed decision‑making.Project Financial Measurement:
- Build, maintain and govern project cost structures (cost centres, project codes) within the bank’s Enterprise Resource Planner/ledger.
Track and analyse:
- Actuals / Budget / Forecast
- Committed spend (purchase orders, contracts, vendor SOW’s)
- Run-rate
- Capex vs Opex
- Vendor spend
- Measure progress for business, technology and regulatory programmes ensuring alignment with key project deliverables.
- Work with key project stakeholders utilising information on hand in order to calculate and generate business case financials and financial project metrics (ROI, NPV, Payback Period)
Financial Reporting & Insights
- Deliver structured weekly and monthly reporting packs, including:
- Project cost report (actuals, forecast, variance analysis)
- Benefit tracking (cost savings, efficiency gains)
- Capitalisation summary (on software development, internal labour, etc.)
- Cash flow forecast and funding requirements
- Cost-to-complete analysis vs business case
- Risks & issues with quantified financial impact
- Portfolio-level rollups for PMO / Programme Director / CFO review
Forecasting & Planning
- Ensure forecasts reflect latest delivery plans, resourcing models, vendor statements, and approved change requests.
- Perform scenario analysis.
- Validate and challenge assumptions, ensuring credibility and accuracy
Capitalisation & Regulatory Compliance
- Apply the bank’s capitalisation policy in line with IFRS and regulatory standards, ensuring correct treatment of:
- Software development and technology assets
- Internal and contractors staff time
- Infrastructure and license costs
- Support internal and external audits, Finance Control, and Group Reporting and Compliance teams.
Data Quality, Systems & Improvement
- Maintain accurate financial master data for project structures.
- Improve reporting efficiency via automation (e.g., Power BI dashboards, Excel models, templates).
- Drive continuous improvement with Finance, PMO, and Technology teams.
Key Deliverables
- High‑quality monthly Project Finance Pack within agreed SLA.
- Accurate and well-supported forecasts.
- Clean and audit-ready reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Reliable capitalisation calculations and supporting rationale.
- Consistent alignment between finance and PMO reporting.
Required S kills and Competencies
- 3–7+ years project accounting or financial management experience, preferably in banking or financial services.
- Strong understanding of:
- Budgeting & forecasting
- Capitalisation rules (IFRS, software development costs)
- Advanced Excel and Power BI
- Strong analytical and measurement mindset
- Attention to detail and high accuracy
- Ability to challenge assumptions constructively
- Good communication and executive‑ready reporting style
- High integrity, disciplined governance, and documentation standards
Education & Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar.
- Professional qualification advantageous (CA(SA), CIMA).
