LOCATION:                     Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site, 3 days/week remote)

The National Council States Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is an independent, not-for-profit organization through which nursing regulatory bodies act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting public health, safety and welfare, including the development of nursing licensure examinations. JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a talented financial leader to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Finance will oversee all financial operations and systems and partner with the CFO and senior leadership team in strategic decision making.

 

This role is an exciting opportunity for a senior-level accounting leader with experience in accounting, budgeting, internal controls, and financial reporting who is looking to expand their financial leadership experience while supporting an organization committed to advancing nursing regulation and policy worldwide!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Directs all aspects of financial operations, accounting, and compliance with regulations, internal policies and best practices. Manage and mentor finance staff, fostering professional development and a culture of accountability. Ensure team provides high level of customer service to other NCSBN departments.
  • Coordinates, analyzes, and prepares financial reports, variance analysis, annual budget reports, and forecasts for senior leadership and the Board of Directors. Leads the preparation and submission of annual tax returns and other required regulatory reports for NCSBN.
  • Implements and ensures optimal utilization of ERP, payment, and budgeting systems. Drives continuous process improvements through automation and process enhancements, including journal entries, reconciliation, and month-end close processes. 
  • Assist CFO with Treasury management, cash flow forecasting, budget development and management. Lead finance team projects and assist CFO with board reporting, ad hoc reporting, and costing projects.  
  • Develops and enforces internal controls, implements, and maintains departmental policies and procedures, and oversees the general ledger, AP, and AR. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Collaborates with other departments to support business initiatives and optimize financial performance. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Not-For-Profit organization accounting, including GAAP, and all pertinent rules and regulations for 501 (c) (3) organizations.
  • Deep systems and reporting experience and understanding of accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Experience developing reports and building forecasting and financial models to support data-driven decision making, leveraging advanced Excel tools for robust analysis. Skilled in developing, managing, and monitoring complex budgets.
  • Ability to align financial management with organizational goals and long-term planning.
  • Ability to make sound financial decisions under pressure and with incomplete information.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in accounting or finance including at least five years of related leadership experience required.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $126,00 - $157,000 annually. Actual compensation will be dependent on a candidate’s relevant experience, skills, training, certifications/licenses, qualifications and geographical location.
