About the Role

Join Origin Zero’s Engineering & Delivery team as our Electrical Engineer (Solar, Battery). In this role, you’ll help design and deliver renewable energy systems that power a cleaner future.

Your primary focus will be the design, optimisation, and delivery of commercial-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with additional involvement in C&I solar system design. You’ll support projects from concept through detailed design and costing, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Support technical design and decision-making for commercial-scale battery systems, optimising cost, performance, and reliability.
• Develop detailed electrical and system designs in accordance with Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee Safety in Design assessments and lead technical review meetings for commercial battery and solar projects.
• Contribute to PV and energy solution tender processes, including concept design, detailed documentation, and budget development.
• Partner with Business Development to shape compelling technical and commercial offers for customers.
• Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver practical, cost-effective, customer-focused solutions.

 

About You

You will come with Electrical engineering experience and an understanding of renewable energy systems, as well as a passion for sustainable innovation. You combine technical design skills with commercial insight and enjoy working on complex projects from concept to completion. You will also have;

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required.
• A detailed understanding of Australian Standards and Regulatory requirements relevant to Solar and Battery system design.
• Experience in designing commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) exceeding 100 kW.
• Design experience in commercial solar design for systems exceeding 100kW.
• Experience in configuration of protection settings and protection studies for commercial battery and solar systems.
• Experience related to civil design requirements associated with battery installations advantageous.

Desirable:

• RPEQ registration (or eligibility to obtain) preferred.
• SAA Accreditation in grid connected PV and Battery system design.
• Obtained or be working towards Chartered Engineer (CPEng) status.
• Onsite experience with commissioning of commercial battery systems highly regarded.
• Prior experience related to civil design requirements associated with battery installations highly regarded.
