Reporting to the Commercial Asset Manager, the Senior Commercial Property Accountant supports accounting and operational finance activities for a commercial property portfolio, including month‑end close, operating statements, tenant billings and recoveries, CAM reconciliations, budgeting support, and coordination with Property Management and other finance teams.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Prepare accurate monthly operating statements and complete monthly variance analysis by property and on a consolidated basis.
- Support month-end close, including reviewing rent rolls, recurring entries, and payment processing.
- Prepare tenant billings, including rental advice notices and recovery charges, based on lease terms.
- Maintain and support CAM and operating cost reconciliations, including year-end chargebacks to tenants.
- Partner with the Property Management team to support annual budgets and property-level accounting needs.
- Support tenant account management, including responding to inquiries related to ledger balances and payment arrangements.
- Assist with collections and write-off documentation when required.
- Assist with onboarding new properties and adapting processes to support processes for portfolio growth.
- Support cross functional inquiries from Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable teams, as needed.
WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing one is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in commercial property accounting.
- Strong working knowledge of Yardi Voyageur and Advanced Budgeting Modelling.
- Strong analytical ability with experience reviewing and interpreting commercial lease agreements.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, with strong motivation and attention to detail.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and decision-making ability.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with internal teams and tenants.
