Job Description
The Trade Mark (TM) Formalities Paralegal sits within the Intellectual Property (IP) sub‑team of the ASOS Legal Department. As an innovative pure‑play e‑commerce fashion destination, IP and trade marks underpin every part of ASOS’ brand and business. This role is key to ensuring the Legal Department meets the needs of teams across the globe - requiring strong commercial awareness, the ability to work confidently across multiple jurisdictions, and the judgement to identify risks and escalate issues promptly.
You’ll need to be hands‑on, commercially minded, and highly organised, with the energy and curiosity to support the full lifecycle of our trade marks. A genuine interest in trade marks is essential, along with the desire to handle a blend of formalities and broader IP paralegal tasks at the fast pace our business moves.
The Details
You will be responsible for all TM formalities for the team working closely with the Senior TM Paralegal, while also supporting a range of TM/IP paralegal work:
Formalities
- Managing all formalities associated with TM filing programmes, prosecution, registration, and maintenance (including preparing POAs, application forms, renewal fee payments, etc.)
- Running audits of database updates to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ensuring ASOS’ TM database is up to date with accurate, relevant information
- Producing reports and data for the IP Team, Legal Department and wider business
- Organising and maintaining storage and retrieval of original documents
Trade Mark / IP Tasks
- Instructing filing programmes and liaising with local counsel to ensure all requirements are met
- Preparing TM applications at UKIPO, EUIPO and WIPO
- Responding to day‑to‑day specification objections
- Working closely with local agents to ensure efficient portfolio management
- Gathering evidence for filings, prosecution and disputes
- Preparing first‑draft use statements for prosecution or disputes
- Running brand clearance searches
- Acting as the “#2” for paralegal tasks relating to IP claims
- Supporting our culture by championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategies.
We believe being together in person helps us move faster, connect more deeply, and achieve more as a team. That’s why our approach to working together includes spending at least 3 days a week in the office. It’s a rhythm that speeds up decision-making, helps ASOSers learn from each other more quickly, and builds the kind of culture where people can grow, create, and succeed.
