Job Overview:

The Dispatcher role at our company is integral to the smooth operation of our logistics and transportation services. This position is tasked with coordinating freight, vehicles, and driver availability to optimize our delivery schedules, ensuring our customers and facilities receive their shipments promptly. The Dispatcher plays a crucial role in monitoring compliance with DOT requirements and maintaining essential regulatory documentation. A keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to motivate are key to succeeding in this role.

Job Description:

  • Direct and manage drivers to meet company performance standards, ensuring adherence to rules and regulations.
  • Actively monitor driver activities, providing coaching and disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Evaluate and motivate driver performance, setting clear benchmarks for success.
  • Review and approve pre-planned routes for efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with terminal manager and supporting local operations daily to determine labor plans to match customer needs.
  • Communicate daily assignments and expectations to drivers, ensuring clarity on start times and job requirements.
  • Coordinate order pickups and deliveries, assigning tasks in the system for optimal route efficiency.
  • Train drivers on the use of ELD/On-Board Communication devices and other technology to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor driver adherence to scheduled start and end times, ensuring accuracy in the AS400 system.
  • Update customer-based platforms daily with required dispatch information and notate exceptions.
  • Proactively manage potential downtime by staying informed of delays and communicating effectively with the Terminal manager.
  • Resolve any pickup or delivery issues promptly, maintaining seamless operations.
  • Oversee appointment scheduling for pickups and ensure timely store deliveries.
  • Enter manual orders into the system as required, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage equipment control, including tractor and trailer assignments, and update equipment information in the AS400 System.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the operation by ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a dispatch team, contributing positively to team dynamics and success.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a dispatching role, with a strong understanding of logistics and transportation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education, underpinning strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional ability to work under pressure, meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Proven supervisory skills, with the capacity to lead, motivate, and manage driver performance effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers and management.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, enabling clear and effective interaction with a diverse range of individuals.
