Activities
- Review of a wide variety of legal documentation and agreements, provide ad-hoc advice across TEPSR’s activities and departments (contracts and procurements, business team, HSE, etc.) on various contractual and business matters; assist in negotiations and contract review
- Stay abreast of the changes in the Surinamese legislations and regulations likely to impact our activities; keep internal legal digital tool updated and propose upgrades as required
- Contribute to cross‑functional and cross‑border legal initiatives (regular sharing of best practices, providing or organizing with external counsel internal training, and enhancement of legal operations efficiency)
- Analyze and resolve new complex legal issues, always with forward and innovative thinking
- Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders (including other group affiliates) and with external counsel and legal departments of regulatory bodies, as required
- Assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation and commercial disputes
- Assist the head of legal in managing and structuring, as required, data protection compliance (with local and international requirements as applicable)
Candidate Profile
- Education: Master’s degree in law in Suriname – additional qualifications from foreign university a plus but not a requirement
- Professional experience: 12 years+ in legal private practice and/or in-house counsel within an international company, covering a broad range of commercial and corporate law matters and the set-up or coordination of projects and transactions. Experience in the oil and gas sector is a plus but not a requirement
- Technical competencies: excellent knowledge of the Surinamese legal systems, institutions, legislative process, contract drafting, clear communication skills (written and spoken), attention to details.
- Language skills: strong command of Dutch (written and spoken); Fluent in English (written and spoken) is essential; knowledge of French is a plus but not a requirement
- Interpersonal skills: self-starter; excellent work ethics; outgoing; eager to learn and develop new areas of legal expertise; open to constructive feedback
