About the Role
The Human Resources Manager at Nine Orchard serves as the primary HR leader for the hotel, acting as a trusted partner to hotel leadership and employees alike. This role oversees all on-property HR functions, including union labor relations, employee relations, onboarding, compliance, HRIS administration, and employee engagement.
The ideal candidate brings strong hospitality experience, proven union expertise, excellent judgment, and a hands-on leadership style suited to a fast-paced luxury hotel environment.
What You’ll Do
Labor Relations & Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary HR contact for unionized and non-union employees
- Manage union relationships, including contract interpretation, grievances, investigations, and disciplinary processes
- Partner with hotel leadership to ensure consistent application of collective bargaining agreements and company policies
- Provide guidance on employee relations issues with professionalism, discretion, and empathy
Onboarding & Employee Experience
- Manage full-cycle onboarding for all hotel employees, including new hire paperwork, orientation, and system setup
- Lead engaging and informative new hire orientations (Spanish-language support when needed)
- Act as a consistent, accessible HR presence on property, fostering trust and approachability
Compliance & Policy Administration
- Ensure compliance with federal, New York State, and New York City labor laws
- Conduct regular audits (I-9s, certifications, postings, safety training, union documentation)
- Maintain, communicate, and enforce HR policies and procedures
HRIS & Reporting
- Maintain accurate employee data in HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)
- Generate and analyze reports related to staffing, turnover, retention, and compliance
- Ensure data integrity across HR, payroll, and benefits platforms
Leave Tracking & Payroll Coordination
- Track employee leave (medical, FMLA, NY Paid Family Leave, sick time, parental leave)
- Partner with payroll and benefits teams to ensure accurate processing and communication
Culture, Engagement & Recognition
- Lead employee recognition initiatives, including anniversaries, milestones, and celebrations
- Support engagement efforts that strengthen morale, retention, and workplace culture
Special Projects
- Participate in cross-functional HR initiatives aligned with hotel and corporate priorities
- Support continuous improvement of HR systems, communication, and employee experience
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of HR experience, preferably in hospitality, hotels, or a unionized environment
- Demonstrated union experience required (grievance handling, CBAs, labor relations)
- Strong working knowledge of employment law and compliance best practices
- HRIS experience required (Paylocity preferred)
- Spanish fluency (written and spoken) is a strong plus
- Exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- High level of discretion and professionalism
Work Environment & Requirements
- On-call availability during select weekends as needed
- Regular computer use; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs
