Reports to: Head of Compliance, South Africa
We are seeking an experienced Compliance Officer to join our team and support operations in Zambia and across African regions. This role ensures the company meets compliance obligations, regulatory requirements, and AML standards, while also supporting client onboarding and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain compliance policies and controls, including AML and Financial Crime policies.
- Review and update policies and reports to ensure alignment with regulations and laws.
- Monitor compliance frameworks and ensure ongoing adherence to obligations.
- Support client onboarding and ensure CDD/KYC processes are followed.
- Provide required compliance information to banks and counterparties.
- Facilitate bank account openings and act as a contact for financial institutions.
- Conduct risk assessments for money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime.
- Oversee transaction monitoring and escalate/report suspicious activities to regulators (e.g., FIC Zambia).
- Deliver AML and compliance training to staff, including high-risk teams.
- Conduct internal reviews and audits, supporting external audits when needed.
- Ensure regulatory filings are submitted on time and maintain sanctions compliance.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and the Board.
Requirements
- Degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- AML/Compliance certifications (e.g., ACAMS, MLRO, Certificate in Compliance Management).
- 3+ years’ experience in a compliance role within financial services, fintech, or banking.
- Strong knowledge of AML legislation and local/international compliance regulations.
- Experience liaising with banks and regulators is a plus.
- Self-starter able to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
