Summary:

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) must have experience in setting up SQL clusters and working knowledge in azure environments. The DBA is responsible for tasks such as development of best practices and repeatable procedures for deploying databases, day-to-day operational activities including break/fix, capacity management, backup and recovery, database replication setup/management and ongoing database change reviews. The DBA must employ expertise and techniques to proactively monitor SQL servers to prevent issues, detect, report and begin resolution before users are impacted.  You will also build and maintain large-scale and very high transaction SQL Server databases on Windows Server platforms. You will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentations and specifications as required.

  • Provision and configure SQL Server instances for both new and existing products
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
  • Implement world-class database monitoring and alerting to ensure DBA is proactive in monitoring active events and proactive in preventing events such as low drive space, fragmented indexes, etc.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain replication strategies.
  • In depth analysis of performance, identification of areas of improvement, and implementation planning.
  • Prepare documentation, procedures, and specifications.
  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary.24x7 Support of Production DB’s
  • Solid working knowledge performing OS/DB migrations on prem and in azure environments/Installation, configuration, and support of SQL Server Integration Services, Reporting Services
  • Support and maintenance of BI reporting platform.
  • Participate in the creation, revision, and execution of project plans, including identifying resource needs, performing quality review, and escalating functional, technical, and organizational issues where appropriate.
  • Windows Server Administration/Scripting – PowerShell, Python, and shell scripting are all good
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise (that matter the most for this role):

  • Experience serving as DBA lead
  • Experience in T-SQL and other developer tools used to support programming that include new functionality, automated interfaces, and/or enhancements to vendor-provided software
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in SQL Server
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server database management and administration including with large scale SQL Server databases.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining Always-On Availability Groups is required. Knowledge of additional replication models is a plus.
  • Experience working with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and ETL jobs.
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL/T-SQL queries and jobs.
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies.
  • Certified SQL Server DBA is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology-related field or related work experience
  • 5 years of related database administration and application infrastructure experience
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical staff, including coordinating and planning of work efforts
  • Must have excellent organizational, planning, and technical skills to diagnose problems in an environment with constantly changing priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability to document associated programs and integrations
  • Team leadership and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work on small-to-complex projects that require skills in multiple technical environments
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of project management disciplines/methodologies and change management.

  • Knowledge of related security best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) or related experience
  • SolarWinds DPA or similar monitoring solution
