
About this role
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Senior Enterprise Network Engineer. The successful candidate will have 10+ years specializing in advanced networking and telecommunications services and provide state-of-the-art solutions enabling the SRNL staff to navigate the ever-changing landscape of digital transformation. This will include designing, implementing, and managing complex networking solutions, including those based on Cisco SDN technologies, Palo Alto FW, and Data Center Virtualization. Successful candidate will be expected to work on various projects for the enterprise network including a centralized campus and remote facilities.
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN).
- Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems.
- Develop comprehensive network design and implementation plans.
- Provide technical support to clients and team members.
- Work on BGP, VXLANs, and spine and leaf networks.
- Implement security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
- Develop Network device deployment automation.
- Firewall Security Policy Generation and Implementation.
- Conduct research, cost-benefit and return-on-investment analysis on proposed hardware, software and systems to justify recommendations, support purchasing efforts, and aid management in making infrastructure design and architecture decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in networking, routing, and switching across enterprise networks.
- Proven work experience as a Network Architect/Engineer with expertise in multi-site software defined networks.
- Hands-on experience with both Internet IPv4 and IPv6 routing and switching.
- Proficiency in BGP, VXLANs, and spine and leaf networks.
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools.
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS/NX-OS preferred).
- Solid understanding of advanced security features in next-gen firewalls (e.g. client VPN/S2S VPN deployments, Layer 7-based security policies).
- Solid understanding of wireless infrastructure components (e.g. Wireless LAN Controllers, Access Points).
- Knowledge of zero-trust network access (ZTNA) principles and implementations (e.g. Cisco Secure Access, Cisco ISE).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in providing support to a wide range of network systems and applications
- Skilled in designing and implementing granular security policies within multi-vendor firewalls (Palo experience is preferred).
- Experience in deploying and managing virtualized firewalls (Palo and/or Azure Firewall is preferred) in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proficient in configuring VPN Client Gateways (Palo and/or Cisco is preferred), including always on VPN & split-tunnel design.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Experience with cloud services (e.g. Azure, AWS).
- Experience in Federal Government and/or higher educational environments.
- A minimum of two professional certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, CCNA, etc
