Shape the Future of VAT Compliance at Damen
As our new VAT Compliance Manager, you will take a central role in strengthening and professionalizing the VAT landscape across Damen Shipyards. You will not only safeguard our compliance but will also actively help shape the processes, controls, and systems that keep a global, future focused shipbuilder running smoothly.
This is a newly created position in the Damen Shipyards Tax team, a unique opportunity to make your mark, take ownership, and contribute directly to operational excellence across our Financial Shared Service Center (FSSC) and multiple Dutch entities.
Your impact
- Optimize and safeguard VAT processes by reviewing FSSC controls, resolving issues, and implementing improved internal controls.
- Translate review insights into enhancements in SAP processes, VAT master data, and tax add-on configuration.
- Review and approve Dutch VAT returns and foreign VAT returns of Dutch entities, conduct trend analyses, and provide explanations to the tax authorities.
- Prepare, validate, and oversee VAT reconciliations and related financial postings.
- Coordinate activities with external VAT service providers, including data review, managing feedback, and improving processes.
- Manage VAT related questions and correspondence with the tax authorities.
- Minimize VAT leakage by improving domestic and foreign VAT recovery for expenses and AP invoices.
- Execute annual VAT obligations such as private use corrections, pro rata calculations, and supplementary returns.
- Support the tax control framework through annual testing and review activities.
- Act as VAT data steward by monitoring and resolving master data issues using data quality tools.
- Co-manage SAP tax add-on configuration together with the tax team.
Who we’re looking for
You’re a detail driven VAT compliance professional who thrives in an environment where improvement and ownership are part of the daily rhythm. You enjoy collaborating with many stakeholders across Finance, Supply Chain and Commercial teams and build trust quickly.
You bring:
- HBO education in finance, tax, or a related field.
- 10+ years of finance experience, including at least 5 years in VAT compliance or VAT accounting.
- Experience introducing or improving financial/VAT processes is a strong advantage.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain warm, constructive stakeholder relationships.
- A positive, energetic mindset; a true team player who enriches the atmosphere.
