About this role

Xora is currently incubating an early‑stage, stealth‑mode semiconductor‑equipment venture. The company has validated a novel deposition platform that tackles a critical materials bottleneck for next‑generation chips. As a Field Systems Engineer, you will be part of the core technical team that brings our custom-designed equipment from concept to reality.

You will be responsible for assembling, testing, and commissioning complex vacuum systems used in the deposition of high-performance materials. Your role spans from hands-on hardware integration to supporting process engineers with system optimization & reliability improvement. You will be critical in ensuring each system meets performance standards and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate vacuum CVD equipment based on mechanical drawings and system schematics
  • Perform system-level troubleshooting during bring-up and field deployment
  • Support thin film process engineers in achieving uniform, high-quality deposition of materials
  • Conduct vacuum leak checks, sensor calibration, and process gas safety verifications
  • Maintain documentation of build procedures, BOM’s, and test results
  • Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to iterate on mechanical design and system improvements
  • Provide on-site support for equipment installation and preventive maintenance when needed
  • Assist in fixture/jig design and validation using CAD tools where applicable

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
  • 3 years of hands-on experience in assembling and commissioning vacuum process equipment (e.g., CVD, PVD, ALD systems)
  • Experience with vacuum system integration, including chamber assembly, pumping line setup, thermal management, and process gas delivery
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processes from atmosphere to high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum environment
  • Able to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and perform basic troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Experience in the semiconductor equipment industry, particularly related to wafer-scale thin film deposition or metrology
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Experience working in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work independently and collaborate across disciplines
  • Familiarity with thin film deposition processes in a high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum environment
  • Familiarity with safety regulations on industrial requirements for both equipment and infrastructure
