Join the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and be part of a team that’s driving innovation at scale, leveraging cutting-edge technology to deliver insights that matter for our environment, energy, and water resources.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering and supporting high-quality, scalable data products across the department’s diverse groups and divisions. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts and analytics teams to enable a data mesh approach, ensuring reliable and authoritative data sources across the enterprise.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Data Pipeline Development:
- Design and implement ingestion pipelines using Fabric Data Pipelines, Mirroring, and Event Streams.
- Develop transformation logic in Fabric Notebooks with modular, parameterized code.
- Medallion Architecture Implementation:
- Support adoption of a Medallion architecture following departmental standards.
- Optimize Lakehouses and Warehouses for performance
- Observability & Quality:
- Implement load assurance, auditing, and error handling in pipelines.
- Monitor pipeline health and performance; troubleshoot failures proactively.
- Collaboration & Enablement:
- Partner with domain SMEs to support data products aligned with data mesh principles.
- Contribute reusable notebooks, templates, and best practices to the shared hub.
To be successful you’ll need to have:
Along with a relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent knowledge and experience, you’ll also need:
- Extensive experience in comparable Data Engineering positions.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, and Notebooks).
- Strong coding skills in Python, PySpark, and SQL for ETL and analytics.
- Knowledge of Delta Lake protocols, schema evolution, and data quality frameworks.
- Proven ability to work in agile teams, delivering domain-specific data products aligned to enterprise standards.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps.
