The Role

As a Legal Counsel II with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc.

  • Experienced legal professional within the APAC Legal team, responsible for developing and implementing legal and contracting strategies. Leads or contributes to cross-functional projects and plays a key role in shaping and improving policies, procedures, and training programs. Provides nuanced advice and guidance to senior management on a range of legal and contractual topics, and actively mentors junior lawyers to support their professional development.
  • Lawyer with relevant experience to provide legal support to the APAC, with a strong background in commercial and contract law, particularly in engineering, EPC, or EPCM or similar services.
  • May train and coach junior attorneys in the APAC region, or within the wider company on matters within their specific areas of knowledge and/or experience.
  • May mentor less experienced lawyers (who are not direct reports) on topics within their areas of experience, skill and knowledge.
  • Collaborates closely with senior leadership, regional generalist lawyers, Center of Excellence (CoE) teams, Major Projects and Program (MPP)/strategic teams and cross-functional teams to manage legal risk and support business objectives.
  • Handles routine legal matters in collaboration with the relevant CoE teams and escalates complex matters as appropriate.
  • May support complex projects in the opportunity stage by advising the capture team and execution team; on contractual and other legal risks and issues and by drafting, reviewing and negotiating the relevant contract; and by providing legal guidance on change management, commercial matters, and potential claims or disputes with customers and third parties.
  • Participates in one or more practice area Working Groups in support of and in collaboration with the responsible GC and, where appropriate, the relevant CoE.
  • Promotes a collaborative and solutions focused culture by encouraging open dialogue and knowledge sharing. Proactively takes ownership of projects and initiatives that support team objectives and organizational priorities.

About You

To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:

  • Preferred 3-6 years of relevant experience with demonstrated growth potential.
  • Experience in a global or matrixed organization preferred.
  • Experience with legal systems, technology tools and AI.

  • Exercises independent judgment on moderately complex matters; escalates issues with significant business impact.

Supervision Received and Authority:

  • Operates independently with periodic oversight; may mentor or coach junior lawyers informally in their area of expertise.

Communication:

  • Delivers clear, actionable advice to cross-functional teams; may present findings to business leaders.

Systems, Processes & Tools:

  • Develops and implements the Worley governance and business processes/practices. Contributes to the development and improvement of legal tools and training programs.

Strategic Impact and Leadership:

  • Mentors others and contributes expertise to team initiatives.
