1. Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong statistician to join our Data & Statistical Sciences (DSS) team in China as Senior Manager. In this role, you will provide strategic statistical leadership and support for clinical trials conducted both in China and globally, including planning, analysis, and engagement with China regulatory authorities. This position is ideal for individuals with a solid technical foundation who are ready to independently lead the statistical strategy of clinical development projects and make impactful contributions to healthcare innovation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively shape project direction and provide expert statistical guidance throughout the drug development process.

2. Major Job Responsibilities

Lead the statistical support for one or more clinical development projects through own eﬀorts or those of a team. Lead/develop statistical strategy for project development and regulatory submission.
Provide statistical leadership in the design, analysis, and reporting of clinical or other scientific research programs. Support protocol development and lead both statistical analysis plans and statistical programming plans.
Provide statistical input to compound/drug development and drive alignment with functional management. Partner with other functions to co-create development strategies for assigned projects.
Demonstrate understanding of statistical concepts and methodology. Provide suﬃcient details to allow programming implementation. Ensure that all statistical analyses specified in scientific protocols and analysis plans are conducted appropriately.
Guide development and implementation of project-specific database-related activities in collaboration with Data Sciences, Statistical Programming and other stakeholders.
Supervise contract statisticians or junior statisticians. Gain expertise in innovative statistical methods. Assist functional leaders in arranging training opportunities for professional development of staﬀ.
Develop strategy for data presentation and inference. Ensure appropriate interpretation of statistical deliverables in collaboration with other functions. Collaborate in publication of scientific research. Ensure accuracy and internal consistency of reports and publications, including tables, listings, and figures.
Act as the liaison for statistical issues on AbbVie collaborative studies with CROs, academic institutions, government agencies, steering and/or data monitoring committees, joint ventures or licensing activities
Collaborate effectively with both Global and China-based teams, acting as a communication bridge to align statistical deliverables and ensure mutual understanding of clinical and regulatory expectations.
Lead the development and critical review of statistical deliverables for China regulatory submissions, including overseeing the preparation of statistical review documentation, addressing regulatory queries, and ensuring compliance with evolving local regulatory requirements.
Explore and apply AI-powered tools to solve business problems, increase productivity and improve effectiveness.

Qualifications

MS (with 8+ years of experience) or PhD (with 4+ years of experience) or higher in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
Familiarity with at least one statistical programming language (e.g., SAS, R, Python)
Able to perform statistical computations and simulations
Able to identify data or analytical issues, and assist with providing solutions by either applying own skills and knowledge or seeking help from others
Highly motivated to drive innovation by raising the bar and challenging the status quo
Pharmaceutical or related industry knowledge desired, including experience and understanding of drug development and life-cycle management in the regulated environment.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Education in a relevant field, for example a) PhD in a field such as (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics with at least an additional 3 years of experience in a statistical or quantitative field, or b) Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
Hands on experience with and strong interest in some of the relevant fields of CMC and/or assay development and validation.

Background

The 50x2030 Initiative to Close the Agricultural Data Gap is a joint initiative between the World Bank, FAO, and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) that aims to increase the capacity of low and lower middle-income countries to produce, analyze, interpret, and apply data to decisions in the agricultural sector that support rural development and food security. Within the framework of this initiative, the Survey Team of FAO Statistics Division (ESS) is coordinating the implementation of the Data Production component, which aims at supporting national statistical Offices (NSOs) and Ministries of Agriculture (MoA) to accelerate production and dissemination of high quality and timely statistics on the agricultural and rural sector, integrating production data with data on the technical, economic, environmental and social aspects of the agricultural holdings.

The Data Production component includes providing technical assistance to the Government of Zambia to implement the annual agricultural survey programme and produce quality agricultural data improving the availability, timeliness, and accessibility of agricultural data in Zambia and to strengthen the country’s agricultural statistics system. The technical assistance started with the preparation and implementation of the Integrated Agricultural Survey (IAS) 2024 which corresponds to the CORE module of the Initiative 50x2030 and continues in 2025 with the preparation and implementation of the Crop Forecast Survey (CFS 2025) and Post-Harvest Survey (PHS 2025) which will include the Income and Labour Productivity (ILP) module of the Initiative.

Reporting lines:

Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Zambia and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR Programmes (AFAOR-P) and the Coordinator of the Surveys team of the FAO Statistical Division in Rome, the incumbent will work i) as a focal point for the implementation of the 50x2030 Initiative activities in Zambia with the support of the Survey Team of FAO Statistical Division and ii) as support for the operations unit in areas linked to monitoring the tools used and operational planning, answering the assigned tasks within the 50x2030 and within the Operations Unit of the FAO Representation in Zambia.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Output 1: 50x2030 (IAS2024, CFS2025 and PHS2025) (80%):

•    Follow the instructions from the focal point of the project implementation team in Rome HQ, coordinating at national level the technical and operational planning of the project, in dialogue with national institutions and in alignment with the CPF, namely
•    Support in the organization and logistics of meetings, preparation of agendas, preparation of informative notes, ensuring the participation of interested parties in online and in-person meetings
•    Support in the preparation and conduct of international expert missions within the 50 x 2030 Initiative
•    Participate in all technical and coordination meetings of the 50 x 2030 Initiative in Zambia and prepare summary notes
•    Support the harmonization of survey tools and instruments, ensuring consistency between the IAS, CFS, and PHS and alignment with international statistical standards and the 50x2030 methodology.
•    Monitor the progress of field data collection and provide technical backstopping, including troubleshooting operational challenges and ensuring timely submission and quality of data from field teams.

Output 2: Provide technical assistance to Regular Programmes (20%):
•    Support in organizing regular project coordination meetings and other engagements, manage invitations, mobilize participants and support preparation of meeting notes and ensure follow up on required action points.
•    Advise the FAO Representation on matters relating agricultural, food security data, statistics and contribute to preparation of technical elements for briefs, reports, FAOR speaking points, concept motes and other relevant documents from time to time, liaise with other projects in the domain of agricultural development.
•    Represent FAO Country office in relevant coordination platforms and technical working groups at country level.
•    Identify the critical technical limitations of ZamStats, MoA and MFL related to agricultural statistics for planning future technical assistance.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING:

Minimum Requirements:

•    Advanced degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Social Sciences, or related fields with strong background in Statistics
•    At least five years of relevant experience in agricultural statistics, impact evaluations or large sample-based surveys.
•    National of Zambia

Technical/Functional Skills:

•    Experience working with government institutions, especially in agricultural data collection and analysis.
•    Proven coordination skills and experience managing technical projects.
•    Familiarity with national agricultural survey systems, especially the Integrated Agricultural Survey, Crop Forecast, and Post-Harvest Surveys.
•    Excellent organizational and communication skills.
•    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

About the Roles

As a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, you will contribute to high-quality research, innovative teaching, and meaningful service and governance within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McGill University invites applications from outstanding investigators for a tenure-track position in the field of Statistics. The position, open as of August 1st, 2026, is targeted towards candidates with demonstrated expertise in the development of modern statistical theory and methods, or closely related aspects of data science, machine learning or artificial intelligence more broadly. Additional experience doing inter-disciplinary research is an asset. The Department welcomes applications at the Assistant Professor level, but more senior applicants will be considered.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Statistics or a related field at the date of appointment and must demonstrate competitive research and publication records, substantial teaching experience, and a strong potential for collaborative research, program development, and contribution to the scholarly community in general. Candidates must have the necessary background to contribute substantively to teaching core courses among the statistics program degree offerings.

Duties: Duties include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, supervising students, and standard administrative duties at the levels of the department, university, and research community.

Salary: Salary will be negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

You will need:

Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, AI, or Computer Science, or related fields and at least 5 years specialized experience in environment, biodiversity and sustainability topics. A PhD in these fields will be a distinct advantage.
At least 5 years' work experience in related field, with evidence of high-quality research output and record of publications in international peer-reviewed professional economics, data science or related journals.
In-depth knowledge of the research process.
Written and verbal proficiency in English.
Excellent project management capabilities as shown in projects completed and delivered.
Proficiency in using spreadsheets, statistical/econometric software (STATA, Python, R and SQL), database applications, and knowledge in implementing automated routines.

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics comprises approximately 30 tenured/tenure-track faculty members across four disciplinary groups (pure, applied mathematics, applied statistics, mathematics education) who take pride in teaching at a university that ranks near the top for number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to minorities. We are actively involved with community outreach through our training and placement of future teachers, coaching teams of high-schoolers for mathematics contest ARML, organizing our very own Data Day and Math Day at the Beach for high-schoolers, and other activities. These events are committed to promoting equity and inclusion by providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, regardless of their background. We aim to break down barriers and ensure that every student has equal access to engaging and enriching mathematics and statistics activities. Additionally, we have a Data Science Learning Community in Long Beach whose purpose is to empower racially-minoritized students and communities through robust community engagement, mentoring and research experiences for underrepresented high school, community college, and university students, and professional development of educators.

Department faculty members work closely, productively, and collegially with departmental colleagues on innovative curriculum development, research, and advising. Faculty teach mathematics, statistics, and math education courses for undergraduate majors, graduate students, and broader audiences. Faculty members provide mentorship to new hires in research, pursuit of grants, teaching, service, and general adjustments to life as a faculty member. Represent function/department on project team(s) to provide statistical input to compound/drug development and drive alignment with functional management. Partner with other functions (Clinical, Regulatory, Patient Safety, or GMA) to create development strategies for assigned projects.
Demonstrate extensive understanding of statistical concepts and methodology. Propose novel statistical methodological approaches to design of scientific studies. Provide sufficient detail to allow programming implementation. Ensure that all statistical analyses specified in scientific protocols and analysis plans are conducted appropriately.
Train and mentor staff on statistical methodology and operations. May supervise contract statisticians or junior statisticians. Gain expertise in innovative statistical methods. Assist functional leaders in recruiting qualified personnel and arranging training opportunities for professional development of staff.
Develop strategy for data presentation and inference. Ensure appropriate interpretation of statistical deliverables in collaboration with other functions. Collaborate in publication of scientific research. Ensure accuracy and internal consistency of reports and publications, including tables, listings, and figures.
Act as the liaison for statistical issues on AbbVie collaborative studies with CROs, academic institutions, government agencies, steering and/or data monitoring committees, joint ventures or licensing collaborators. Build external scientific connections which foster professional development and promote the reputation of the Statistics department.
(Clinical Statistics) Ensure that all applicable regulatory requirements for work processes are met. Critically review regulatory submission documents. Participate in discussions with regulatory agencies as needed. Validate external statistical software to ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

MS (with 10+ years of experience) or PhD (with 6+ years of experience) in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a highly related field.
High degree of technical competence and excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Able to identify data or analytical issues, and assist with providing solutions by either applying own skills and knowledge or seeking help from others
Able to manage project timeline and quality of deliverables
Able to build strong relationship with peers and cross-functional partners to achieve higher performance. Highly motivated to drive innovation by raising the bar and challenging the status quo
Have strong leadership skills and experience in working/managing cross-cultural or oversea teams
Pharmaceutical or related industry knowledge required, including experience and understanding of drug development and life-cycle management in the regulated environment.

The role of Teaching Fellow reports to the Director of First Year Studies and has no direct reports.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

Deliver mathematics tutorials and other teaching for up to 12 hours per week.
Carry out teaching related activities as allocated by the Head of School (or delegate), such as class preparation, administration of relevant records, informal consultation with students, exam supervision, marking assessments, and other coordination duties.
Depending on intertest and capacity, undertake lecturing and engage in mathematical research or scholarship.
Assist in course assessment, administration and curriculum development and outreach activities.
Undertake administrative duties as specified by the Head of School and/or the Director, First Year Studies
Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values

The Role

We are seeking to recruit a Research Assistant/Associate to undertake work as part of our NU Solve programme.

Newcastle University Solve (NU Solve) in the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics (MSP) has a track record of applying world-class academic expertise to businesses, industry, and wider society. From bespoke training and research to commercial consultancy, NU Solve works with external organisations in the fields of mathematics, statistics, data science and physics to make real impact outside of academia and to interdicsiplinary research. NU Solve also operates a drop-in clinic for University staff to get help with their statistics and data science problems.

NU Solve has a new role for a statistician to work on a diverse range of projects with business, industry and government partners and academics across Newcastle University.

The role will expand the capacity of NU Solve to develop closer partnerships with external organisations and other Schools and Institutes, and to broaden the scope of activity for the School of MSP in the area of statistics and data science. This will help to strengthen and expand our School business, innovation and skills activities, such as our new statistical data science CPD courses.

Working with academics and professional services staff across the School and Faculty, the role will work flexibly across commercial consulting projects, skills and continuing professional development (CPD) training and research projects.

The position is full time, available for a fixed period of 24 months in the first instance.
