Description

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking a BioMER Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Biospecimen Procurement and Molecular Epidemiology Resource’s (BioMER) Translational Research team. Supporting translational/observational study subject recruitment, data abstraction and related project activities at the University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Individual in this role will work with team to facilitate activities related to scheduling patients for ‘Research Consultations,’ approaching patients for consent to a variety of research protocols and abstracting related data from the Electronic Health Record for BioMER managed studies including multi-center collaborations and registries. Additional activities may support collection, processing and storage of research specimens as needed.

Duties To Include:

Create, populate, maintain, and enhance multiple databases containing clinical and research information obtained through the review of patient charts and samples, lab reports and other related information in a manner that complies with IRB requirements and research needs.
Consult with translational staff and researchers in development of data management plan.
Assist in the development of electronic data capture forms to facilitate abstraction of required data for assigned projects.
Perform data abstraction, criteria-specific or focused chart review per project protocol for on-going and ad-hoc studies as directed.
Work with team to carry-out strategies to update and refine both legacy and prospectively entered data.
Assist in judging validity of data; making recommendations for change as opportunities for improvement are identified in close collaboration with the translational staff and investigators.
Assist in coordinating collection and processing of biospecimens as needed, including communication with internal and external labs.
Assist in the design, development, and execution and specimen processes for protocols and clinical studies.
Assist in the preparation of data summaries and other information for use by faculty and staff in preparation for reports, publications or presentations.
Attend protocol meetings and other UIHC meetings as appropriate and related to the BioMER and related activities.
Conduct, and monitor patient informed consent to ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations.
Meet one-on-one with patients to complete consent process, maintaining confidentiality, goodwill, and sensitivity.
Participate in determination of patient eligibility for participation in translational studies.
Work with Lead Consent Coordinator to monitor consent flow and provide regular updates to relevant staff including clinic, intake, physicians/providers, specimen procurement and research team members.
Collect and enter required subject enrollment and screening data in required data collection tools including EPIC, Labmatrix, REDCap, OnCore and other study related databases.
Consult with managers, staff and physicians to support improvement activities and organizational initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Internal Medicine Clinical Trials Unit is seeing a full-time clinical research assistant to join our team. The clinical research assistant will collaborate with a team of clinical research coordinators and will support clinical trials across multiple internal medicine divisions including cardiology, benign hematology, digestive and liver diseases and nephrology. Key Responsibilities

General Job Description

The Neural Enhancement of Learning Lab (NELL) (Dr. Katherine Aboud, P.I.) is seeking a highly motivated and self-directed Masters Level (MA or equivalent in experience) Research Assistant (RA), to assist the NELL to perform a wide variety of complex and independent activities to plan, organize, and conduct research investigating the neurobiological patterns of reading and learning using neuroimaging and non-invasive brain stimulation. This is a part-time (10-20 hours/week) paid position, with compensation commensurate with Vanderbilt University’s RA stipend levels. The position will be supervised by Dr. Katherine Aboud.

The MA RA will assist with conducting various clinical research protocols, while assuring integrity and quality of the research is maintained and is conducted in accordance with Vanderbilt Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, federal and sponsor regulations and guidelines, Vanderbilt Policy and Procedure, and NELL research protocols. The RA will independently implement research protocols to assure study-related procedures are performed as required and objectives and timelines.

Major Duties And Responsibilites

Key Functions and Expected Performances

Knowledge and understanding of the implementation, coordination, management, and reporting of research operations:

Understand and accurately and compliantly perform the procedures required of each study protocol
Work collaboratively with study participants, other NELL key study personnel (KSP), and departments, in safely and accurately performing study procedures:
Study procedures include (but are not limited to):
collecting sensitive participant data to determine eligibility;
Recruiting/Consenting Participants;
coordinating, arranging & preparing study testing schedules and visits;
collecting and maintaining current and accurate participant data records and storage (in compliance with IRB and Sponsor regulations and NELL SOPs)
supporting the administration and collection of study research data, including paper/pencil tests, brain imaging, non-invasive brain stimulation;
supporting data preparation and fidelity check processes of research data;

Minor Duties And Responsibilities

Serve as an advocate for human subjects by establishing and maintaining communication with Investigators, research staff, Sponsors, & participant:

Successfully complete all CITI Training, Protection of Minors, Humans Participants of Research trainings, and the like, and adhere to all required compliance regulations.
Engage in open communication with participants by providing them with contact information and being available to answer, address, or refer their questions or calls.
Engage in weekly lab meetings, and other pertinent KSP and VU trainings and workshops, as applicable.
Participate in data collection trainings with periodic fidelity checks
Assist with other research lab and data collection related tasks and projects, as applicable

Qualifications For The Job

Education:

A post-secondary degree in a related field is required

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of previous research experience or relevant advanced coursework is preferred.
Exposure to neuroimaging methods, including fMRI, EEG and non-invasive brain stimulation, is preferred
Experience with REDCap is preferred
Experience with data management is preferred.

Job Description

The role of the Research Assistant is to provide support, at various levels of independence, to the Research Coordinator and investigators. This position requires the ability to adhere to research protocol and work with the investigator and other team members to carry out various aspects of conducting a clinical trial.

The Research Assistant reports to the Manager, Research, with accountability to the Oncology leadership team.

This role is fully onsite.

Accountabilities:

Liaise with research collaborators, research team members, Research Ethics Board (REB) staff
Operate within an established research protocol and under specific instructions as to method and processes relevant to the research study
Complete applications for submission to the REB
Create/modify source documents, consents, information letters and other study related documents
Complete accurate data collection and case report completion in multiple EDC systems in a timely manner
Assist with screening, consenting and other study related activities
Assist in scheduling of study procedures as per study protocols in coordination with supporting programs
Perform well-defined, routine or repetitive tests, experiments, or other procedures
Assist in preparation of sample blood specimens and control documentation for shipment to external labs as per IATA regulations
Assist in other administrative and job-related duties as assigned by the research manager

Qualifications

Undergraduate certificate or Bachelor's degree in health science preferred
Completion of the ICH-Good Clinical Practice Certification
Previous experience in clinical research is an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Dr. Roberts is a member of the Physics department at CU Denver and works to detect dark matter and to build tools that increase the trust in results from this discipline. This position focuses on monitoring the data quality quickly enough that shifters can intervene as issues arise. This job will requires you work with the SuperCDMS data quality monitoring software, processing software, data acquisition software, and multiple databases to deliver usable science data.

Professional Research Assistant
What you will do:
Approximately 20% of your time will be spent learning about the data quality system and related subsystems. This will involve:
Participating in remote team meetings with PI and graduate students where the focus is debugging code and/or the computing environment
Meeting weekly with the PI and sometimes graduate students and postdocs to learn about the MIDAS data acquisition system deployed for the experiment, the databases in use, the network underground at SNOLAB, the data quality system, the data catalog, and other systems that integrate with the data quality system.
Attending remote training sessions to learn how to take a remote shift running the CDMS detectors.

Approximately 50% of your time will be spent developing the data quality monitoring system. This will involve:

Individually debugging and implementing features in data quality codebase.
Individually learning and testing the data quality system on test installation.
Individually updating and testing data quality code on the primary installation at SNOLAB.

Approximately 30% of your time will be spent supporting facilities in run efforts. This will involve:

Taking shifts as a data quality expert when we turn on the experiment. This will involve monitoring the slack chat for issues and checking that webpages are populating correctly. You will need to report bugs and, when they are severe, contact the PI and arrange a schedule for immediate fixes.
The candidate may have the opportunity to take shifts at the experiment site, an active mine in Ontario.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics or related field
Minimum of two years of experience in each of the following:
Written at least one Dockerfile, singularity/apptainer definition file, or Nix/Guix package.
Have built tests for a codebase of any size (unit tests or end-to-end tests).
Used or interfaced with SQL databases for at least one project.
taking a lead or principal role in software projects.
writing and debugging both C++ and Python for medium-scale applications (larger than 75,000 lines of code). Applicants that reach the interview stage will be required to walk through one contribution in each language.
using distributed version control (e.g. Git, Mercurial) with a team of two or more developers.
Development experience in a unix/linux shell. Must include familiarity with a terminal-based text editor.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with creating, testing, and improving technical documentation.
Experience using a container as your development environment.
Experience using and maintaining job schedulers (HTCondor, Slurm, etc.).
Experience using profiling and debugging software to improve performance of C++ code
Experience maintaining basic web applications.
Experience with serving web content over https including setting up certificates, configuring web servers, etc.
Experience performing analysis with ROOT files.

Conditions Of Employment

Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
This position can be either full remote or hybrid. Candidates who wish to work fully remotely can work anywhere in the United States. Candidates who prefer a hybrid work structure can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
Candidates who choose to take shifts at the experiment site (an active mine in Ontario) should be able to walk up to two miles per day and perform tasks requiring moderate physical flexibility, such as using a hose to wash down boots while worn.

Professional Research Assistant
What you will do:
Approximately 20% of your time will be spent learning about the data quality system and related subsystems. This will involve:
Participating in remote team meetings with PI and graduate students where the focus is debugging code and/or the computing environment
Meeting weekly with the PI and sometimes graduate students and postdocs to learn about the MIDAS data acquisition system deployed for the experiment, the databases in use, the network underground at SNOLAB, the data quality system, the data catalog, and other systems that integrate with the data quality system.
Attending remote training sessions to learn how to take a remote shift running the CDMS detectors.

Approximately 50% of your time will be spent developing the data quality monitoring system. This will involve:

Individually debugging and implementing features in data quality codebase.
Individually learning and testing the data quality system on test installation.
Individually updating and testing data quality code on the primary installation at SNOLAB.

Approximately 30% of your time will be spent supporting facilities in run efforts. This will involve:

Taking shifts as a data quality expert when we turn on the experiment. This will involve monitoring the slack chat for issues and checking that webpages are populating correctly. You will need to report bugs and, when they are severe, contact the PI and arrange a schedule for immediate fixes.
The candidate may have the opportunity to take shifts at the experiment site, an active mine in Ontario.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics or related field
Minimum of two years of experience in each of the following:
Written at least one Dockerfile, singularity/apptainer definition file, or Nix/Guix package.
Have built tests for a codebase of any size (unit tests or end-to-end tests).
Used or interfaced with SQL databases for at least one project.
taking a lead or principal role in software projects.
writing and debugging both C++ and Python for medium-scale applications (larger than 75,000 lines of code). Applicants that reach the interview stage will be required to walk through one contribution in each language.
using distributed version control (e.g. Git, Mercurial) with a team of two or more developers.
Development experience in a unix/linux shell. Must include familiarity with a terminal-based text editor.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with creating, testing, and improving technical documentation.
Experience using a container as your development environment.
Experience using and maintaining job schedulers (HTCondor, Slurm, etc.).
Experience using profiling and debugging software to improve performance of C++ code
Experience maintaining basic web applications.
Experience with serving web content over https including setting up certificates, configuring web servers, etc.
Experience performing analysis with ROOT files.

Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
This position can be either full remote or hybrid. Candidates who wish to work fully remotely can work anywhere in the United States. Candidates who prefer a hybrid work structure can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
Candidates who choose to take shifts at the experiment site (an active mine in Ontario) should be able to walk up to two miles per day and perform tasks requiring moderate physical flexibility, such as using a hose to wash down boots while worn.

A full-time 3-year position as a PhD student at Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM) at the Department of Public Health, SDU is vacant from December 1st 2025.

Research environment
The PhD position is funded by a European Research Council Advanced grant entitled “PFAS Forever-Everywhere” (more information here: https://academic.oup.com/eurheartj/article/46/6/501/7921186). The PhD student will primarily be investigating whether reducing one's PFAS levels also causes a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease due to the lowering of cholesterol levels.
In this project, the PhD student will learn to understand and apply modern causal inference techniques such as target trial emulation, marginal structural models and G-computation to observational data from the Copenhagen City Heart Study and the Danish nationwide registries.

The successful applicant does not need to be familiar with these techniques but have a genuine interest in understanding advanced statistics.
The project is performed in close collaboration with researchers from the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, so good collaboration skills are required.

The position is placed within CPPEM, which is a highly motivated research unit that performs research within pharmacology and environmental medicine. The research areas of CPPEM span from environmental medicine to pharmacoepidemiology, clinical studies and cell-based basic pharmacology. Collectively, CPPEM has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions and therapeutic drug monitoring.
Specifically, the environmental medicine group studies the impact of early life exposures to environmental chemicals. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a main focus area, with studies of the adverse health effects of exposure, biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in working with health data, has previously worked with R or similar statistical analysis environments and has at least a basic understanding of statistics.
If you do not have any experience with the above but are interested in the topic, we still encourage you to apply, as we are mainly looking for a highly motivated individual that is willing to learn and does not shy away from learning new skills.
Besides research, the PhD student is expected to help with the department's teaching obligations in accordance with his or her own background.

Ideal Candidate

PhD or PharmD with relevant expertise in clinical pharmacology or pharmaceutical science is required
5+ years of direct industry experience in conducting clinical stage drug development
Experienced in developing clinical pharmacology plans and authoring relevant sections of clinical and regulatory documents
Knowledge and experience in the application of current practices in the areas of clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles, drug metabolism, bioanalysis, biopharmaceutics

Performing data entry and quality control checks of motor vehicle crash data received from police departments.
Use custom software and mapping tools to assist in data collection.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a B.A. or B.S. with no post-degree experience or equivalent specialized training and experience in a data entry or office setting.
Proficient skill with basic computer applications (i.e., email, Microsoft products, Google Maps, web browser).
Demonstrated past experience of working with maps, GPS data, transportation networks, and spatial information.

About The Opportunity

Position Summary:
The student will work with PhD students and Postdoctoral scholars in the AFL to further our understanding of metal combustion science by applying advanced optical diagnostic tools, including absorption spectroscopy, to laminar and turbulent metal flames. The candidate will perform an experimental risk analysis and develop an experimental plan and risk mitigation plan. The student is expected to present research progress at weekly team meetings and to submit a final report on the project at the end of the position.

Job Description And Position Requirements

Animal Nutritional Physiology research group is seeking part-time assistance with dairy nutrition experiments at the Penn State Dairy farm. The position will primarily be responsible for collecting and weighing feed refusals, calculating amount of feed needed that day, and mixing and delivering feed to cows on nutrition experiments. Requires early morning hours (~530 to 830 AM) 3 to 4 days per week. Will also assist with collection of milk samples some mornings. Requires ability to lift 50 lbs with or without assistance. Previous experience with cows or other large animals preferred.

Job Description:

Using focus ion beam (FIB) to prepare semiconducting transmission electron microscopy (TEM) specimen.
Investigating selective area electron diffraction of semiconducting TEM specimen.
Studying semiconducting TEM specimen using dark-field and bright-field TEM and scanning TEM (STEM).
Writing research reports and scientific journals as well as preparing conference presentation documents.

Qualification:

Master’s degree in STEM
Extremely skillful in using FIB to prepare TEM specimen and carrying out crystalline specimen analysis using electron microscopies.
Extremely familiar with diffraction pattern analysis, crystal planes, directions, and structural defects using TEM and STEM.
Excellent communication and writing skills.

Position Summary:

Assist the research team in conducting research projects and, as required, provide functional supervision to Undergraduate/Graduate Research Assistants.

Examine the endocytosis of nanobeads and quantum dots into tissue culture cells.
Perform confocal microscopy to colocalize quantum dots and beads with GFP-tagged markers of the endocytic pathway and with markers for the actin cytoskeleton.
Prepare similarly treated cell samples for electron microscopy.
Conduct tissue culture and endocytosis experiments, including the preparation, maintenance, and manipulation of cell cultures.

Liaise with external collaborators in Michigan to coordinate aspects of the research project.
