Position Overview

The Quality Control Technician I conducts testing of samples to ensure product batches and finished goods meet all quality specifications. Sampling and testing of incoming raw material bulk tanker loads (primarily industrial solvent liquids). Some troubleshooting and problem solving is involved.

1st Shift: 6am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday, Occasional Overtime and Weekends during the busy season (April - September)

Primary Responsibilities

Performs testing of finished goods and in-process line samples to ensure they are within quality specifications
Determine how to correct out-of-spec materials and direct production to make those adjustments
Ensure safe and appropriate practices in lab
Testing requirements include but not limited to viscosities, densities, gel times, etc.
Prepares & tests samples for advanced testing (i.e. peel and shear strength)
Maintains daily quality log, history files, etc.
Maintains the sample retain room
Interprets and applies inspection & tagging instructions, procedures and standards
Supports production for process testing
General housekeeping of QC Lab including cleaning and maintaining test equipment
Authors test procedures and work instructions as needed
Initiates non-conformance &Trial Material reporting
Supports customer service for complaint investigations
Supports R&D development testing, as needed
Monitor lab equipment calibration testing and report as needed

Minimum Requirements:

Needs a high school diploma or equivalent.
1 year of lab experience or education in chemistry lab
Must be able to do basic math

De Quality Control Technician werkt in de productie omgevingen van Thales Nederland B.V. Dit doet hij/zij door middel van Controleren (proces, product, configuratie, persoon en documentatie) en corrigeren (proces, persoon) om zo de kwaliteit te bewaken en garanderen.

Kern taken:

Interne controle:

Proces beheer binnen de productie omgeving:
- Zorgt er voor dat monteurs werken volgens de juiste normen, HSV’s, DIN & ISO normen. Support productie met het opstellen en controleren van checklisten, om kritische waardes en stappen te kunnen borgen. Beheert de checklisten, zorgt er voor dat relevant en up to date blijven.
Product controle:
- Controle van het opgeleverde product/systeem na assemblage, of ze voldoen ze aan specificatie en klant eisen.
- Controle van sub assemblages voor dat ze verwerkt worden in grotere systemen, of ze voldoen ze aan specificatie en klant eisen.
- Tussentijdse product controle tijdens assemblage, wanneer de route hier om vraagt of ad hoc. Of escalaties aan de hand van de SIMs.
- Controle of alle serie nummers goed geregistreerd zijn door monteurs en kloppen in het PLM systeem.
- Bovenstaande ook uit te voeren bij offloading partners externe leveranciers, die assemblage werkzaamheden uitvoeren voor Thales.

Inproces controle:
- Controle op de werkvloer of de werkmappen & documentatie juist is.

- Controle of monteurs zich conform workmanship afspraken produceren.

Afkeur registratie & afhandeling:
- Bij onderdelen die afwijken van specificatie, gemaakt intern of door externe leveranciers een fout registratie op te starten, in het PLM systeem.
- Documenteren van afwijkingen in het systeem of product voor overdracht.
- Afwijking veroorzaakt door interne productie vastleggen, om vervolgens om te zetten naar verbeter acties in het productie documentatie.
- Afwijkingen in T.P.D.’s registreren en door zetten naar T.W.V.’s en engineers, om aan te laten passen voor een volgende productie.
- Bij afwijkingen met grote impact op leveringen organiseer je een M.R.B. waar jij als kartrekker, multidisciplinair team aan stuurt om impact en oplossing te verzinnen.

Overdracht begeleiding:

Aanmelden en opzetten van overname.
Product overname van (sub) assemblages.
Controle op compleetheid en juistheid van de configuratie (CRT’s) voor overdracht naar vervolg afdeling.
Controle op compleetheid en juistheid van ECR voor overdracht naar vervolg afdeling.
Mogelijke overname risico’s van te voren in kaart brengen, delen met klant.

Controle of revisie standen matchen op tekening met wat er fysieke gemaakt is.
Documenteren en overdracht van open staande punten betreft systeem overname.

Externe controle:

Offloading
- Product afname bij off-loading partners.
  - Controle of de (sub)-assemblages voldoen aan de kwaliteitseisen.
- Contact punt & support voor off-loading partners, als het gaat om kwaliteit & proces vraagstukken.
- (in)Proces controle bij offloading partner.

Kwaliteitsborging bij “new Product integrations”:

Deelnemen aan product readiness review.
- Analyseren wat er gebouwd moet worden.
- Waar kunnen kwaliteit risico’s ontstaan.
Beschikbare documentatie beoordelen. Is dit volgens Thales productie standaard?.
Komt de veiligheid van mens en machine niet in het geding.
Na het bouwen van de eerste unit, observaties en advies delen en waarborgen tijdens de FAI (First article inspection).

Interne & Externe Process audits:

Samen met Manufacturing technology engineers en/of quality coordinators, audtis bij leveranciers te doen. Om te bepalen of deze voldoen aan Thales eisen.
- Bevinding verwerken en presenteren aan betrokkenen.
Samen met iemand van de interne audit afdeling andere afdelingen auditen.

Updates team on current testing status and instrument readiness during the shift change.
Supports laboratory inventory upkeep, ensuring supplies are properly stocked, labeled, and accessible.
Prepare samples for outside testing by following specified procedures.
Handles samples from submittal to disposal.
Handles Test Request samples.
Perform sample preparation for the testing of samples following approved test method procedures.
Ensure compliance with company quality standards and industry regulations to maintain quality within the scope of the job description. This includes documentation and reporting.
Follows applicable safety procedures.
Performs routine cleaning and housekeeping duties ensuring instruments and workstations are clean and properly maintained.
Assist with Hazardous Waste disposal, including discarding expired supplies as per SOPs.
Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the following occasional duties:

May perform standardized Test Methods for validation purposes.
Under supervision, may investigate unexpected testing results at the QC Lab level.
May login and dispose of retain samples. Keeps the retain sample area clean and organized.
May perform daily calibration verifications of testing instruments. This may include GC, GPC, Instron, scales/balances.
May provide support with routine testing of materials related to defects, customer complaints, and opportunity analysis projects.

Job Summary

The job performs routine laboratory data collection and analysis to support clinical research, and assists in specialty research involving animals, MRI technologies, histology, among others.

Responsibilities

Perform in-process QC tasks (CFU viability, USP 61/62, media production) for drug substances and drug products.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as anaerobic chambers, Biological Safety Cabinets, spectrophotometers, and pH meters.
Document QC tasks clearly and accurately on controlled forms and electronic systems (LIMS).
Participate in environmental monitoring of the cGMP facility.
Assist in investigations related to deviations and out-of-specification (OOS) results.
Maintain laboratory supply inventory and preventive maintenance / calibration schedule.
Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment including setup, cleaning, and appropriate care.
Maintain the highest standards of laboratory workplace safety and product quality.
Meet all training requirements for applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Follow verbal and written instructions and procedures for processes and equipment.
Identify and report non-conforming events in a timely manner.
Comply with regulations set forth in SOPs.
Perform peer review of cGMP manufacturing activities.
Prepares quality and safety control measures for the laboratory, such as checks of equipment, temperature control, and documentation of quality improvement projects. Under a limited degree of supervision, provides support to clinical research studies.
Has general awareness of safety, quality control, and quality assurance procedures. Maintains quality and safety control measures for the laboratory.
Conducts new tests and researches on new technologies for implementation in the laboratory. Solves routine or standard problems relating to the collection and management of patient results and data.

As an NPI Quality Analyst in the R&D pilot line, you will play a hands-on role in verifying and validating the quality of new product builds through inspection, auditing, and issue detection. Physical Demands:

The quality lab tech pulls finished products from the line to ensure the quality of the product and its containers.
There is a cart that is pushed from the QA lab out to the lines. This cart requires 12 pounds to push at its heaviest. The product is placed on the top shelf of this cart, which is at 33 inches off the ground. Some of the product pulled will be put into a tub on another cart that is also 33 inches off the ground. These will eventually be put into an incubator room to check for bacteria growth. Others will be used to check the actual product or packaging of the product.
The products to be put into the incubation room are rolled on the cart as far as 160 feet. The cart requires 17 pounds of force to push when it is full. There are two tubs on the cart with 16 individual boxes of product in each tub. The heaviest the tub can be is 46 pounds. They have to be lifted from the 33-inch high cart to as high as 76 inches off the ground. They may have to lower down to 6.5 inches.
In some scenarios, the tubs would have to be carried a maximum of approximately 20 feet. The tub movements into or out of the incubation rooms occur approximately every 60 minutes. The incubation room is kept at 95 Degrees F.
Tubs are taken away from the incubation room the same as they are brought in.
There is a data sheet that is provided to the lab tech that has the product codes for the individual boxes and cases. The tech checks these codes on the individual product containers and on the cases as well.

The primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements in the manufacturing facility. You are responsible for quality support and oversight of manufacturing operations, which includes presence on the floor and for performing Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) sampling of finished product. Additional responsibilities include assessment for potential issues on the floor, raw material investigations, Quality on the Shop Floor (QOTSF), online batch documentation review, sample management, kitting of batches, and raw materials release.

How you will contribute:

Perform Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) sampling of finished product. Identify and assess quality risk in production operations daily.
Build Total Integrated Quality (TIQ)/ Quality on the Shop Floor (QOTSF) and review of checklists. Programs are part of manufacturing support and compliance enforcement.
Initiate JDE (inventory management system and preventive maintenance system) work orders if required to address issues in.
Perform sample management (Sterility, stability) to appropriate facilities and responsible for appropriate storage and disposal of retention samples. Samples Raw Materials in an ISO Classified environment, including preparation and shipment of samples to the required laboratories.
Initiate investigations in the event of a failure about processes or Raw Material that is deemed to be out of specification.
Perform assessment with manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance to resolve potential issues on the floor and escalate.
Facilitate kitting operations for packaging – issue and return of preprinted materials physically and electronically.
Handle movement of materials/products physically and electronically for quarantine and reject areas.
Review Lead Manufacturing support activities including batch record documentation review. Perform approval of batch documentation and consult with manufacturing to address any required corrections.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provides training to other employees.
Maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with company SOPs and specifications, FDA, and cGMP regulations.
Monitor product quality through the performance of required visual testing follow ups.
Contribute to a team setting within quality operations and potentially with other work teams to increase efficiency, produce cost savings, improve quality, and provide new product support.
Support regulatory audits.

Requirements

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Must obtain and maintain DOT certifications required to test materials as required by state regulations.
Must have at minimum of an Iowa DOT Level ll endorsement.

Physical Demands:

The quality lab tech pulls finished products from the line to ensure the quality of the product and its containers.
There is a cart that is pushed from the QA lab out to the lines. This cart requires 12 pounds to push at its heaviest. The product is placed on the top shelf of this cart, which is at 33 inches off the ground. Some of the product pulled will be put into a tub on another cart that is also 33 inches off the ground. These will eventually be put into an incubator room to check for bacteria growth. Others will be used to check the actual product or packaging of the product.
The products to be put into the incubation room are rolled on the cart as far as 160 feet. The cart requires 17 pounds of force to push when it is full. There are two tubs on the cart with 16 individual boxes of product in each tub. The heaviest the tub can be is 46 pounds. They have to be lifted from the 33-inch high cart to as high as 76 inches off the ground. They may have to lower down to 6.5 inches.
In some scenarios, the tubs would have to be carried a maximum of approximately 20 feet. The tub movements into or out of the incubation rooms occur approximately every 60 minutes. The incubation room is kept at 95 Degrees F.
Tubs are taken away from the incubation room the same as they are brought in.
There is a data sheet that is provided to the lab tech that has the product codes for the individual boxes and cases. The tech checks these codes on the individual product containers and on the cases as well.

Provide back up to other shifts. Must be flexible and able to work other OT and/or other shifts to cover absences, vacations, etc.
Maintain radio inventory.
Conduct environmental swabbing.
Investigate non-conforming products and conducts root cause analyses.
Calibrate the moisture meter weekly and as needed.
Check the flour sifter monthly.
Inspect belts monthly.
Collaborates with the R&D team for trial runs.
Responsible for daily management and support for the team to achieve operational success.
Monitor time and attendance and ensure compliance with Company Procedures.
Approve the vacation requests.
Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
Issue disciplinary action when needed.

Qualifications

University Degree, College, or Technical School Certificate in the science field. Knowledge in the Food Science field would be ideal.
1-2 years of related quality control experience in the food industry.
Experience investigating the cause of issues related to poor product quality/safety.
Excellent critical thinking skills to troubleshoot product quality/safety problems.
Good English reading, writing and communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively to groups of employees.
Must be competent in using standard computer software packages including Microsoft Word, and Excel.
GMP & HACCP training.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Good math skills.
Great attention to detail with accuracy, especially regarding product specifications.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:

Employee will be directly responsible for Monitoring and leading the day-to-day activities of the QC Technicians.
Assist in all investigations into the direct cause of non-conforming product that occurred in that shift. Manage non-conforming products and provide immediate action or disposition instructions. Hold/release raw materials, WIP, finished goods into and out of facility/production with proper entry of information into the Just Foods program. Alert the Quality Control Manager and/or other departmental Managers /Supervisors/Unit Leaders to infractions of product/packaging quality to standard.
Oversee work performed in the lab and in the plant by other technicians and provide regular updates to the Quality Control Manager.
