Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Psychiatric Technician for our Behavioral Health Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As a Psychiatric Technician you will:
• Facilitates patient-professional collaboration at all levels of health care.
• Monitors therapeutic treatment
• Recognizes and values differences in the care team and creates a setting conducive to opinion-sharing.

• Incorporates clinical guidelines into patient care

Qualifications include:
• Minimum of 2 years in related field
• High School Diploma or GED\t

• Qualified candidates with a minimum of 1 year of Inpatient Psych experience will be eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Work Schedule:

Adult General Psych Disorders

Night Shift: 1845-0715, 3 12hr shifts/week, rotating weekend requirement.

*Current AHC employees are not eligible for a sign-on bonus who are transferring from one entity to another and/or transferring within their entity. Employees that have terminated their employment with AHC are not eligible for a sign-on bonus prior to six months of returning if hired for a position offering a sign-on bonus.

Job Description

Our Psychiatric Technicians work under the direction/delegation of registered nurses in accordance with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan (ITP) to provide medical and psychiatric care to a population of acutely ill adult psychiatric patients who range from 18 years of age to geriatric.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Managing vital signs and finger sticks
Coordinating activities of daily living
Facilitating community meeting and day review
Maintaining an organized and clean environment of care
Providing safety-rounding support
Possess the ability to assist the nursing team with de-escalation and management of disruptive behaviors in order to maintain a therapeutic milieu
Assists in providing patient care and treatment in accordance with the Division of Nursing Standards
Maintains in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, assists the patient care team to provide various patient care activities and maintains customer service focus essential for smooth operation

Skills & Abilities:

Read, write and comprehend medical terminology
Effectively convey verbal and written information
Follow directions
Perform simple mathematical calculations correctly
Respond to emergency situations appropriately
Adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts

Qualifications

Physical Requirements
Works in patient care area with potentially combative or self-destructive patients, including behavior control areas. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. Work requires walking, standing, lifting, reaching, handling of charts, supplies, equipment, blood, and body fluids.

Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred. Good therapeutic communication skills required. CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date. BLS required per policy guidelines.

For guided help, you will partner with a Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement individualized behavioral intervention plans which may include many physical and mental exercises to provide optimal support to your assigned child.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Behavioral Health Technician provides comprehensive care to residential clients; provides medication monitoring, education, and prescriber collaboration. Provides information, education and support for clients. Promotes wellness, recovery and skill building to sustaining better heath. Provides prevention training in the areas of wellness, recovery, managing symptoms, making healthy life style choices, recognizing and responding to relapse, managing crisis and achieving and sustaining recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with caseload of clients and meet with the clients’ assigned case manager and technician regarding their caseload. Assists with searching new clients and their personal items and providing orientation to the facility and the rules. Conducts room checks/searches, and assists with washing and cleaning client beds and rooms. Assists with daily groups including film groups, educational, life skills, exercise, and recreation/leisure. Examines clients for any immediate physical or emotional problems to be included in their individual treatment plans. Assists in monitoring if client chores are completed. Assists with urinalysis tests. Assists with perimeter checks. Conducts vital sign checks if qualified. Assists with monitoring peer/AA/NA Group. Transports clients as assigned.

• Presents and has input into shift change report by collecting treatment information on each client in residential treatment from the prior shift and during his/her own work shift, and then provide this information to oncoming shift.

• Assists with monitoring clients. In the absence of an RN, LPN, or EMT/Technician working on the shift, follow the agency’s self-medication protocols and observes clients taking their medication, documents medications to be taken, and consults with medical personnel outside the agency to obtain medication verifications.

• Ensures that the clients are adequately educated to the facility, mode of treatment, rules and rights, and are oriented to the surroundings. Explains admission, treatment goals, rules and rights of treatment services, and family education/visitation program to the client’s family or significant other when appropriate.

• Assures timely completion of necessary releases of information, group notes, discharge summaries, progress notes, admission orders, Medication Observation Record sheets, etc. Completes admission and discharge notes in the Progress Notes section in the client file and notify the primary case manager or designate of discharge if unplanned. Completes or communicates the appropriate statistical information on all treatment admissions and discharges. Completes billing forms to coincide with progress notes, medical evaluations, case management, and crisis intervention. Complete treatment verification book. Completes Wal-Mart purchasing for medication/transport of clients for purchases.

• Reviews client file for current assessment information and treatment plan goals and activities to be completed by client. Documents assessment data obtained in the Progress Note section in the client file and continue to assess and document any changes in the client’s physical and/or emotional status during the client’s entire length of stay for treatment plan revisions. Assists with file reviews as designated.

• Ensures adequate coverage is maintained and/or secured in the residential program.

• Assure that areas of the building are properly maintained. Clean areas as designated. Cleans clients’ living areas upon their discharge, and other building areas as assigned.

• Answers residential program telephone lines when clerical staff are unavailable and talk with callers in need of assistance.

• Assist with the following kitchen duties in the absence of the cook/tea/coffee/supper/etc. Set up clients’ snack and make it available to clients at 9:00 p.m.

• Assists clients with making linkage with internal and external resources as outlined in treatment plan and in coordination with Integrated Healthcare Services. Maintains appropriate contact with referral sources including providing information on service recipient progress, behavior, and needs (with appropriate releases), and maintaining ongoing consultation when appropriate.

• Monitors self-medication protocols, monitors the dosage, side effects, use and documents patients’ reactions. Provides medication training to the client or client’s family or guardian to administer the client’s medication, to monitor proper levels of dosage and watch for side effects. Obtains laboratory specimens and help doctors with patient examination and continuity of care arrangements with other providers.

- Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.

- Knowledge of community geographical awareness and of community and agency resources.

Job Description

A Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting patients through the entire treatment experience from admission to discharge. BHT responsibilities primarily include ensuring patient safety, providing milieu interventions, and supporting patients as they navigate the treatment process. As the Tech team is available to the patient on a twenty-four-hour basis, careful patient monitoring and communication with the treatment team is essential.

Responsibilities

Facilitates patient daily needs per the program schedule.
Assists Nursing staff with duties as directed, for example: patient supervision, vitals, room searches, patient searches, etc.
Recognizes, responds to, and assists in crisis situations and provides interventions as necessary.
Consistently reports to work on time and prepared to perform the duties of the position.
Delivers indirect and selected direct patient care as directed by facility leadership.
Conducts intake processes, searches of belongings and patients and completes BAC’s and drug screen observations as directed by facility leadership.
Monitors patient activity and documents any significant patient issues.
Records rounds and ensures patient safety as specified.
Conducts regular facility and grounds checks, advising facility leadership of any irregularities or safety concerns.
Notifies and reports any health and safety issues, significant patient concerns and any out of the ordinary occurrences to facility leadership immediately.
Completes all documentation requirements prior to the end of the shift.
Performs basic housekeeping duties.
Facilitates and leads daily groups as directed by facility leadership if applicable.
Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
Completes all online training, policy verification, and ensures that their employee HR file is kept up to date.
Monitors and oversees the self-administration of patient medication if applicable.
Provides transportation services including patient transportation/supervision, errands, shopping, admits, outings, etc. (must be pre-qualified to drive a company vehicle).

This is a full-time position that will work 3-11pm on Tuesday to Saturday.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid and unrestricted required State Driver’s License if applicable
Minimum of 1 year sobriety if in recovery
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to document within an electronic system.
First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire and required recertification annually thereafter.
De-escalation/restraint technique certification within 90 days of hire and recertification yearly thereafter.

Key Responsibilities:

Admit, supervise, monitor, transfer, and discharge clients/patients.
Ensure monitoring of vital signs and determine the need for medical intervention when critical symptoms present.

Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.
First Aid certification within three (3) months of beginning employment.

The BHC is responsible for the overall maintenance of the therapeutic environment and for the collection of specimens and vital signs as needed for the patient's electronic medical record. The BHC relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks and works under the close supervision of the RN. The BHC may collect specimens, vital signs, and assist patients with their daily activities as needed or requested by the nursing team.

Leads group and social activities for patients.
Works closely with nursing, social services, and activity therapy to plan groups to match skill level.
Charts patient response to coordinated group and social activities.
Assists with the admission or intake process as directed by the nurse.

Interacts with patients on a one-to-one basis in a therapeutic manner and reports all relevant patient information to nursing.
Orients the patient to the unit and programming schedules.
Answers phones professionally and delivers messages as needed.
Maintains a therapeutic milieu for patients by leading group and social/leisure activities.
Conducts patient safety checks as required.
Obtain and dispense belongings as appropriate as admission, discharge and throughout stay.
Follows organizational infection control procedures including, but not limited to handwashing and cleaning.
Inspects for contraband items as appropriate.
Monitors patients for potential hazards.
Conducts environmental safety checks and notifies nurse of issues.
Displays good communication skills when working with patients and coworkers.
Displays understanding of delegated tasks from the RN.
Completes 10 hours of assigned Behavioral Health/Leadership CBL's and learning activities \"how to conduct a group activity.\"

Transport clients to and from appointments, intake pickups, discharge drop-offs, etc.
Ensure all passengers in the vehicle are compliant, safe, and non-volatile.
Plan work tasks to coincide with programming requirements.
Set priorities in monitoring clients, making house rounds, documentation of pertinent information and completion of other assignments.
Highly dependable and can be counted on to work independently, having the ability to work with little direction.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of program philosophy and policies and procedures, 245G requirements, house operations, including client rights and confidentiality.
Assist counselors with intake/admission procedures, orientation of new clients and co-workers.
Encourage clients to achieve their goals by functioning as a positive role model.
Participate in client recreational activities with a positive attitude.
Serve as a resource for clients through knowledge of services and opportunities in the community.
Documentation of client information in the communications log and completion of other forms.
Objectively document client related topics in client files and communication logs.
Be diplomatic and exhibiting sensitivity toward other staff and client’s feelings, needs, values, and opinions.
Complete clerical assignments such as faxing, copying programming materials, stocking packets/forms, typing documents in Word and updating Excel spreadsheets.
Assist in food preparation, and household cleaning duties as needed.
Adhere to attendance and absence policies.
Punctual in reporting for work and shift change reports.
Participate in rotational and/or off-shift schedules, including a holiday rotation schedule, as applicable.
Able to work additional hours/off-shift as needed.

Requirements

Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
CPR/First Aid Certification or attain within 30 days of employment
Must be able to pass a background check
Knowledge of all MN Statutes related to providing services for the population NBHN serves, and willingness to learn, understand, and carry out regulations with integrity
Must understand and follow NBH's Drug and Alcohol Policy
Must be at least 18 years old.
Proficient computer skills, including knowledge in MS Office, and Google Suite programs

Full-time shift available:

Daytime shift - 7am to 7pm (12hr rotating schedule)

Below are a few job duties to expect as a Behavioral Health Tech:

Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents at all times.
Cook and serve meals. Follow the facility menu as posted.
Responsible for completing items listed on the facility Chore Sheet as directed by the administrator.
Responsible for assuring all residents are treated with dignity and respect.
Responsible for the supervision of all resident medication procedures. Ensure that all residents receive their proper medication at the proper time. All narcotics will be counted and documented on each shift.
Daily chart documentation
Be familiar with The Wood Group’s policy and procedures to include employee handbook.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience in a behavioral health setting is a plus
