Primary Responsibilities

Conduct environmental coordination activities for Programs of Record throughout the life cycle for conventional ammo including supporting major milestone (MS) decisions such as MS B, MS C, Type Classification (TC), Full Material Release (FMR) and Full Rate Production (FRP)

Lead and/or coordinate the development of required environmental documentation such as Programmatic Environment, Safety and Occupational Health Evaluations (PESHEs), Programmatic Environmental Assessments (PEAs), Records of Environmental Consideration (RECs) documents, etc. Provide recommendations on engineering controls, personnel protective equipment, range sustainment recommendations; based on review of reports, technical papers, etc.

Support other Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health related activities as needed, such as providing support to Life Cycle Readiness Branch ESOH team on PESHEs, PEAs, RECs, review of Hazardous Material Management Plans, SOWs, Safety Assessment Reports, Health Hazard Assessment Reports, etc.

Conduct environmental data analysis, literature reviews, etc. in support of LCRB programs

Attend / participate in IPT meetings, LCRB project meetings, quarterly briefings, etc. as required.

Basic Qualifications

BS degree in environmental and heath related field and up to 2 years relevant experience
Basic knowledge of environmental health and safety requirements related to chemical R&D and production
Basic understanding of chemical processes and chemical hazards
Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant computational software and programming
Working in a team-based environment
Good presentation skills
Strong attention to detail

US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with chemical processes, environmental programs, and relevant software packages highly desirable.

Job Description

The projects that an Environmental Scientist works on will include low to high complexity, multi-media, multi-contaminant remediations. The Environmental Scientist is responsible for planning and implementing field activities, evaluating laboratory data and measurements collected during field work and preparing technical documents under the direction of a Project Manager/LSRP. These duties are performed individually or as part of a team. They are responsible for establishing and adhering to project goals, timeframes and budgets. The Environmental Scientist will also communicate with clients and provide support to Project Managers/LSRPs in technical meetings NJDEP.

This role may involve exposure to wet or humid conditions in hot climates, requiring work in elevated areas with fall protection equipment. Expect environments that might be noisy, needing hearing protection, and at times, requiring high levels of personal protective equipment. A complete physical examination by an occupational physician will be conducted to ensure the ability to wear negative pressure air purifying respirators and impermeable protective suits as needed for the role.

Job Responsibilities

The scientist will be in the field approximately 60% of the time working at commercial and industrial sites and 40% in the office preparing reports and remedial documents
Will work under the direction of a Project Manager/LSRP to design and implement remedial activities
Coordinate and implement field activities including the installation of soil borings, overburden and bedrock monitoring wells and the collection of soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion investigation samples
Interprets data and lab results and prepares technical reports including NJDEP PAR, SIR, RIR, RAW, RAR and soil and groundwater permit applications and due diligence related documents
Communicate with clients and subcontractors

Qualifications

4-year college degree in geology, biology, environmental science or similar science degree and 2+ years of experience in complex, multi-media investigation and remediation with an environmental consulting firm in NJ; a master’s degree in one of the above listed fields is a plus
Well versed in NJDEP’s Technical Guidance Documents and Technical Requirements for Site Remediation
Experienced with due diligence requirements and commercial and industrial property transactional requirements
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience communicating with project stakeholders including clients and regulators
Experience in leading teams and training and mentoring junior staff
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
Flexible to work outside of normal business hours as required
40-hr OSHA training
Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Buffalo, NY office. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients.

This position will support the Environmental business line, working on environmental investigations for private sector and Department of Defense (DoD) clients with a focus on investigations involving PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. PFAS are a set of emerging contaminants for which AECOM has seen significant growth in its business and has positioned themselves as a leading consultant for the DoD.

Under the supervision of a Project Manager or senior-level team member, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include:

Use on-the-job learning to apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.
Undertake technical work in accordance with the contracted scope of work, budget, schedule, and regulatory standards.
Gather and interpret chemical and non-chemical data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports, compile and organize environmental data collected by others.
Prepare basic data and scientific documents and can apply knowledge of natural sciences (hydrology, chemistry, biology, etc.) to explain observations.
Assist senior-level team members in planning and coordination efforts of field programs.
Qualified candidates must be comfortable with travel. Field work and out-of-state travel may be required. Anticipated division of job-related tasks is about a 50/50 percent split between field and office work. Field assignment durations can occasionally be up to 4 to 6 weeks.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Scientist for our Lansing, Michigan office. The following locations are also included: Ann Arbor, MI; Detroit, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; Kalamazoo, MI; South Bend, IN; and Toledo, OH.

Your Impact

Plan, oversee, and lead wetland delineations and stream assessments for linear and renewable energy projects in the Midwest.
Prepare field equipment, mapping, Safe Work Plans, and logistics for field work.
Perform data entry, data analysis and report compilation.
Conduct coordination with various governmental agencies (USFWS, USACE, EPA, etc.).
Prepare wetland delineation reports, and permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including USACE Section 404 and Section 10, state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service coordination, and state natural heritage agency coordination.
Field components may require long hours and/or be physically demanding, and may require being on foot 10-12 hours per day traversing various topography while carrying equipment in varying weather conditions.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments, preferably in Ohio and surrounding states.
Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field.
Familiarity with USACE wetland data forms, ORAM wetland data forms, and QHEI and HHEI stream data forms.
Experience with GPS field data collection.
Plant identification of midwest vegetation.
Willingness to learn and implement various field methods for collection of data.
Proficient with data management, organization and MS Office Suite.
Attention and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work, often independently motivated.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet fast-paced demands.
Willing to work long hours in the field for possibly two weeks out of the month or more during peak periods of fieldwork.
High level of motivation and an ability to work independently as part of various teams.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a team member on a wetland delineation crew and/or familiar with the typical responsibilities of the field assistant role.
Experience with use of ArcGIS, ArcOnline, ArcCollector and ArcGIS Enterprise, Trimble GPS units and Terrasync software.
Strong technical writing skills, clear communicator, ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams, and attention to detail.
Knowledge of USACE 401/404 permitting, Section 10 permitting and mitigation requirements.

Your Responsibilities as a Staff Scientist 1:

Conduct fieldwork to collect soil, water, air, and other environmental samples.
Maintain field equipment used for sampling and monitoring.

What we're looking for:

0-2 years of experience that includes conducting environmental sampling, subsurface investigations, tabulating and presenting data, and using GIS for digital map representations.

This position will be under the guidance of a Group Manager and will coordinate with other Project Managers and Planning team members as needed to provide additional support for projects in North Carolina and throughout the southeast. This position will work on an as-needed basis (on-call employee/contract employee options are available).

Undertake assessments and remediation of contaminated land, groundwater and surface water resources by applying appropriate analysis and evaluation, drawing on relevant guidance, international and national policies
Undertake desk-based studies of site investigation data; prepare remedial action plans and monitoring/management plans; other expert services

8-10 years of work experience is required.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Microstation a plus.
Capability to execute and coordinate 404/401 permitting and environmental assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.
Knowledge of Regulation submittal, Wetland or Environmental design, Phase I/II Environmental Assessments, EPA Rapid Bio-Assessment, and a NEPA background would be considered a plus.
Professional Wetland Scientist and COE Provisional Certification.
DCR E&S Certification a plus.

Working closely with industry specialists to undertake and coordinate environmental impact assessments and approvals on Defence projects

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

Our national Major Projects & Approvals team work on a diverse range of renewable energy, resources and infrastructure projects bringing innovative approaches to approvals strategy, impact assessment, cumulative assessments, as well as the communication of complex scientific matters. We have deep expertise and delivering pioneering approaches that deliver high quality outcomes for clients and communities.

We’re looking for someone with your depth of experience to join our national Major Projects & Approvals team in Perth to lead a diverse range of mining, energy and infrastructure projects, bringing innovative approaches to approvals strategy, impact assessment and cumulative assessments. You’ll work with an outstanding bunch of technical specialists; people who love to excel at what they do. You’ll lead the delivery of high-quality outcomes for a range of clients across Western Australia and you’ll have a voice and plenty of opportunity to shape and grow the practice.

Here’s what you can expect

You’ll join a leading team and lead and support primary and secondary environmental approvals under WA environmental and planning legislation for projects across diverse industries
This is an opportunity to showcase and further develop your project management skills and to play a key role in the development of our business in Western Australia

Here’s what you’ll bring to have impact

A minimum of 7 years plus experience in environmental management, environmental impact assessments and approvals
An understanding of environmental and planning legislation at a State and Federal level
Experienced in the delivery of projects across either mining, energy or infrastructure sectors
A strong network and relationships with clients and regulators
Project management skills that have helped you to achieve high quality delivery outcomes
Highly developed research, analysis and report writing skills
You do what is right for your stakeholders to deliver what is true as opposed to popular
A passion for mentoring early career team members
