General Notes

This position may be required to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular in-office hours. Travel is required.

Purpose

To assist the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach in the leadership and management of the Cheer, Pom and Mascot program and to achieve successful outcomes, including: administrative functions, and gameday. This role is dedicated to fostering student-athlete growth in alignment with the university’s academic and athletic standards, and works collaboratively with the head coach, assistant coaches and athletics staff to coach, instruct and mentor elite student-athletes.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach has significant responsibility in (but not limited to) these areas: Assist with office functions to include purchasing, inventory of equipment and uniforms, facility reservations, travel arrangements, event planning, and correspondence related to the Texas Spirit Program and to summer camps. Assist with summer cheerleader camp functions and operations.
The Assistant Coach is critically involved in all aspects of the program, given specific autonomy, and shares responsibilities with the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach in such key areas of the program such as assist in the supervision of the cheerleaders, pom, and mascots during scheduled athletic events, including away games and events; assist with the supervision of cheerleading and pom practices; ensures the safety of all spirit program participants and camp participants; and assist with the cheerleader, pom, and mascot selection process.
Assist with additional gameday, events, and competitions outside the supervision of cheerleaders as deemed necessary.
The Assistant Coach may share responsibility with the Head Coach in establishment/enforcement of team rules and communication with sports medicine and academic staff. The Assistant Coach may represent the Head Coach at meetings, fund-raising functions and alumni events.
Drive a UT or rental vehicle on and off campus. Other duties as assigned.

Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree. Minimum three years of experience as a cheerleader or other spirit program participant at the collegiate level OR two years actual coaching of spirit groups at the high school or collegiate level. Demonstrated general management skills including computer skills, email, correspondence, scheduling, and budgets. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum one-year experience with office functions to include purchasing, facility reservations, travel arrangements, scholarships, fundraising, and correspondence. Good understanding of the requirements for safety and integrity of spirit programs. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Outlook.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
