We’re excited to announce a new opportunity for a Lawyer/Legal Counsel as we continue to grow and expand our team.
Position Scope:
Working as part of a team of four lawyers, the position provides representation and advice to members, including nursing home, home support agencies and residential care facilities on a full range of labour relations issues. The role involves acting as lead spokesperson in collective bargaining, providing support in the development of essential service agreements and presenting cases on behalf of member facilities before labour arbitration boards and the Labour Relations Board. Other responsibilities include consultation and assistance in contract interpretation, grievance handling, and other related labour relations/employment law matters.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Law Degree with experience in employment/labour law, administrative law or litigation.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in labour relations law including demonstrated skills in collective bargaining and labour arbitration preferred but will consider candidates with other comparable experience.
- Member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society, or eligible for membership.
- Previous labour relations experience in the broader public sector environment including health care is also an asset.
- Travel is required for the position within Nova Scotia
