Tasks
3Brain is seeking for a full-time Junior Mechanical Engineer for its Italian office to join our design and manufacturing team and help scale our mechanical production capabilities. Activities will include the designing, prototyping, testing and maintaining of cutting-edge devices used in scientific and laboratory contexts, complex systems that seamlessly integrate mechanical components, thermal management, fluidics, and sophisticated electronics. Main responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain detailed CAD models and technical drawings for mechanical components and assemblies of current and new products.
- Prepare detailed 2D production drawings with proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Optimize mechanical designs to enhance product robustness, ease of assembly, and cost-efficiency.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) to ensure all parts are accounted for during procurement and assembly.
- Design, maintain and calibrate custom fixtures, jigs, or specialized tools to help assemble products faster and more accurately.
- Collaborate with external suppliers to ensure manufacturability, quality, and timely delivery of mechanical parts.
- Manage prototype assembly and internal testing for early-stage versions of new designs.
- Develop accurate documentations as step-by-step assembly manuals or SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the production.
- Support final assembly, testing, repair and maintenance processes.
- Monitor and analyze production performance indicators related to mechanical components and assembly.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the design and assembly lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues during assembly, test and repair.
- Contribute to root cause analysis and develop new testing or validation procedures.
- Provide data analysis and reporting to support decision-making and escalate issues when necessary.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Strong foundational skills in 3D modeling software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, Creo) with experience generating detailed drawings and documentation for production.
- Basic understanding of fabrication processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, testing, repair and production support.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis, failure investigation, and corrective/preventive action processes.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma certification is a plus).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong interpersonal relationship, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and written/verbal communication skills in English.
- Applicant must have an EU residence permit.
Additional Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in an equivalent mechanical engineering role.
- In-depth knowledge of Siemens NX is highly desirable.
- Basic understanding of PCB assembly processes and electronic component integration.
- Familiarity with signal processing concepts and their mechanical implications (e.g., shielding, thermal dissipation).
- Hands-on experience with manual workshop tools and rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., SLA/FDM 3D printing).Ability to collaborate with electronics and firmware teams to ensure mechanical-electronic integration.
