AeroTEC’s Engineering Services Department supports and provides comprehensive, full-service aerospace engineering services to customers in aircraft design, test and certification. The Engineering Services Department is responsible for providing engineering consulting services related to requirements management, aircraft design, performance, similarity analysis, reviewing and supporting certification activities, determining test requirements, and planning and documenting testing to meet customer needs. These services vary, depending on the customer needs and objectives. The Engineering Services Department provides areas of expertise such as Flight Sciences, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Powerplant & FIFA, Air Systems, Safety, Structures, Flight Controls, Systems and Liaison Engineering.
The Aerospace Engineer - Requirements position is a senior-level role responsible for the architecture, definition, and management of system requirements across the entire product development lifecycle. This position requires a deep understanding of the first principles of systems engineering and the ability to scale processes based on project rigor. This position supports the focal systems engineers in design, developing, testing and certifying a system/s for a project. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Requirements Engineering & Systems Development:
- Generate comprehensive aircraft and system requirements.
- Create high-level and low-level system requirements with a focus on technical integrity and traceability.
- Establish robust validation and verification (V&V) plans for system requirements to ensure design intent is met.
- Manage and determine change control processes, ensuring impact assessments are performed for all technical revisions.
- Assess compliance of systems, components, installation, and operation against defined requirements.
- Communicate system needs and architectural constraints to internal and external design consumers.
- Compare design solutions and perform trade studies based on requirement satisfaction.
- Determine key design parameters, including speed of operation, force limits, command authority, and performance under failure conditions.
- Apply a first-principles approach to systems engineering to solve complex integration challenges.
- Adapt requirements management rigor (from lean/rapid prototyping to high-criticality formal programs) based on specific project needs and customer environments.
- Systems Design & Lifecycle Support:
- Participate in Systems Design Reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)
- Review requirements for completeness, technical feasibility, and suitable verification methods.
- Analyze mechanical or system-level failures to determine root cause and corrective actions based on requirement gaps.
- Coordinate with suppliers to review technical data, including supplier developed requirements, and ensure alignment with system-level requirements.
- Perform component and installation drawing reviews to ensure physical implementation matches requirement specifications.
- Provide expertise across the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements capture to final system integration and hardware-in-the-loop testing to aircraft flight testing
- Complete special projects and tasks assigned by Group Lead.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Tool Proficiency: Proficient in Jama Connect for requirements authoring, traceability, and review management.
- Industry Standards: Deep familiarity with ARP4754B (Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems).
- Systems Expertise: Mastery of the system engineering development process, including requirements origination, management, revision, validation, and verification.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to transition between rigorous aerospace standards and more agile, lean development processes.
- Leadership: Strong leadership presence with the ability to lead by example, instill urgency, and remain objective in difficult situations.
- Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and relate to individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with an ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and make efficient decisions under pressure.
- Project Management: Results-oriented planner who takes ownership of tasks and hits projected schedules.
- Computer Skills: Comfortable and effective working in Microsoft Office. Intermediate Excel proficiency required. Able to quickly learn new software and systems.
- Proven track record of improving the efficiency of assigned processes or procedures.
Qualifications
Level Requirements (Minimum):
Education
- Four (4) year degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems).
- Other Engineering fields may be considered.
Experience
- Ten (10+) years of Aerospace Engineering experience.
- Proven experience across the full product development lifecycle.
- Extensive experience in Mechanical Systems, Avionics, Flight Control Systems, Landing Gear, Hydraulics, or similar complex aircraft systems.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Travel (flying and driving) to various domestic and international worksites and client offices are required. Frequent travel required to the Moses Lake Facility for extended periods of time during scheduled flight test operations.
