Process Engineer
Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Process Engineer in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace and fabrication industries.
The Process Engineer is responsible for creating Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and maintaining related ERP (Global Shop) system database information to support the production of electro-mechanical assemblies in accordance with customer requirements and specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Creates Bills of material within the ERP (Global Shop) system in accordance with customer documentation for quoting purposes.
- Develops, designs and details mechanical components, process plans and complex assemblies using SolidWorks 3D CAD and 3DVIA composer.
- Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
- Analyzes CAD drawings & models, specifications and design details supplied by customers to verify production feasibility, and to identify and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
- Develops manufacturing process plans for assembly of new products and improves processes for existing products.
- Generates customer quotes and estimates in accordance with supplied documentation.
- Design cost effective manufacturing and assembly fixtures for improved employee safety, product quality and manufacturing efficiencies.
- Trains and supports assembly personnel upon release of new or changed process plans,
- Acts as a resource for technical guidance to Manufacturing and Assembly departments.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods, test finished-product and system capabilities, confirming fabrication, assembly and installation processes.
- Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains system and product data base by writing computer programs and entering data.
- Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Notifies management of product discrepancies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Prioritizes tasks based on given timelines and willing to work to meet required project deadlines.
- Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
- Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a mechanical engineer.
- Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Occupation requires being sedentary less than or equal to 75% of the time (< to 6 hours per day).
- Stand, walk, sit, hearing, talking, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
- Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
- Occasionally drives a vehicle to visit customers
- Lift, carry, push and/or pull up to a maximum of 30 lbs. without assistance
Other Physical Requirements:
- Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Steel-toed boots
- Hard hats with chin straps; chin straps must be worn at all time in the warehouse as required.
- Protective eyewear
- Hand protection as required
- Arm guards/sleeves as required
- Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
- Position works primarily in an office/cubicle environment
- May work around heavy machinery when in an industrial warehouse
- Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
- Quiet to moderate noise levels
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant course study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience with GMP(Good Manufacturing Practices) and ISO standards
- Knowledge of design specifications and manufacturing processes.
- 3-5 years proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
- Must have mechanical aptitude and math skills
- Must be organized with attention to detail
- Ability to present technical information and have designs skills.
- Ability to communicate both oral & written effectively with both internal & external customers.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, tolerance information
- Must successfully complete the State of Connecticut workplace harassment training
- Computer Literacy; Microsoft Office Products and SolidWorks 3D CAD
- Technical Communication
