JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects from start to finish. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and the accounting team to ensure accurate job cost tracking, timely billing, compliance with contracts, and proper financial reporting. The Project Accountant acts as a key liaison between operations and finance, providing accurate and timely information to support decision-making and project success.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare, process, and enter all progress billings, AIA billing forms, and change order documentation into Sage 300.
  • Process, enter and maintain all monthly billings and compliance in Textura and Procore (if applicable).
  • Ensure all billing and reporting complies with contract terms and project requirements.
  • Review, process, and enter all subcontractor invoices into SAGE and Timberscan.
  • Review, track, and reconcile project-related expenses, and purchase order logs.
  • Process and prepare ODP documentation, as necessary.
  • Review monthly statements for subcontractors.
  • Maintain detailed job cost records and monitor project costs against budget.
  • Track and process subcontractor lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and compliance documents for assigned projects.
  • Support timely project close-out including final billings, retention release, and reconciliations.
  • Partner with Project Managers to review budgets, forecasts, and assist in the preparation of the cost to complete reports.
  • Provide accurate financial information to management to support decision-making.
  • Participate in project review meetings and communicate financial status updates.
  • Assist with project audits and ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and contractual obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide back up for the Senior Contract Administrator to set up new projects in the accounting system, ensuring budgets and contracts are properly set up in SAGE on as needed basis.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and construction billing processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP software in Sage 300 and Timberscan preferred.
  • Proficiency with Textura, and Procore preferred.
  • Key competencies are communication, teamwork, initiative, and dependability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across departments.

  • For consideration, candidates must be able to successfully complete the Human Resources onboarding process and pass the Safety Orientation training without the assistance of an interpreter.  This includes fully understanding the content delivered by the instructor and passing the associated exams independently.  Employee must also be able to receive and understand instructions provided by their supervisor and communicate directly with them without the need for interpretation services.
  • This is an on-site position. Remote work is not permitted due to the need for daily handling of physical documents, immediate coordination with internal departments, and real-time communication with field personnel.

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar business degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project accounting.
  • Knowledge of construction industry practices, contracts, AIA billing, and Notice to Owners (NTO).
  • Familiarity with lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and retention processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with SAGE, Procore or similar construction accounting software.
