The opportunity:

We have an opportunity available for an experienced Tax Manager to join our team at AIA Australia located in Sydney and lead the tax reporting and compliance function. This position will provide support in all aspects of Income Tax and will work closely with our external advisors. We are on a mission to build up the team and improve on our existing processes. To do this successfully you will:

• Work with external advisors to ensure the timely and accurate submission of tax deliverables to comply with statutory/regulatory obligations (including Pillar 2), Group Office reporting requirements and external service obligations (as applicable)
• Identify potential improvement measures to ensure that related tax controls are effective and efficient, including remediation of any identified weakness areas (e.g. via more automated or streamlined processes)
• Manage external engagement efforts with the Australian Tax Office with respect to the tax position of our Australian entities (e.g. risk reviews, queries, tax rulings)
• Prepare accurate & timely tax deliverables with supportable tax positions
• Implement process improvement measures with respect to managing income tax obligations
• Embody AIA Leadership Essentials (Clarity, Courage, Humanity) and ensure we are Doing the Right Thing in the Right Way with the Right People
• Deliver on other responsibilities, as required, to meet evolving business requirements.

Successful applications will demonstrate:

• Degree qualification majoring in Tax / Accounting, and member of CA ANZ / CPA Australia, or equivalent
• Being a subject matter expert in Income Tax (insurance industry experience beneficial)
• Proven tax technical research and analysis skills, with the ability to think critically and provide tax advice that takes into account technical, practical and commercial considerations
• Strong collaboration and effective communication skills
• The ability to be a trusted advisor who values contributing to better ways of working and can work autonomously to progress tasks
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change
