Job Description:

Responsible for developing and answering business questions at an intermediate level using scientific methods/techniques that use data to train algorithms and statistical models. Develop novel algorithms and solutions for R&D, product development, manufacturing and business operations. Apply intermediate knowledge of statistics, computer science, machine learning, programming, data modeling and simulation to address challenges across 3M. Gather, transform, and integrate large volumes of data, perform analysis, interpret results, and develop actionable insights and recommendations for use within business groups and across 3M. Analyze data, develop algorithms, and deploy solutions based on real-world data. Assist with the design and creation of software applications as a member of a cross-functional team of software developers, engineers, and scientists.

【Job Responsibilities】

• Conduct materials simulation work for adhesive, film and tape products, primarily for automotive OEM customers

• Develop predictive models for material properties using machine learning and statistical analysis

• Analyze experimental data to identify key performance factors

• Support the enhancement of product design and development processes through simulation results

• Collaborate with global teams including Division lab and Corporate lab.

• Prepare technical reports and present analysis results or proposals to stakeholders and customers

【Requirements】

• Master’s degree in Material science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science or related fields

• Experience with data analysis and model development using Python, R, or similar languages

5 years+ practical experience in modeling and simulation of material properties or material structures, machine learning, or numerical simulation (e.g., finite element analysis)

• Experience handling large datasets and using data visualization tools

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical content clearly

• Willingness to learn new methods and technologies and apply them to business needs

Fluent in English and Japanese.

【Preferred Qualifications】

 Doctors degree is a plus but not always required

• Knowledge in materials science, polymer science, or adhesives

• Experience in product development or customer support for the automotive industry

• Experience handling material evaluation or physical testing data

• Experience developing machine‑learning models for predicting material properties
