We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team of innovators at our Portage, Michigan headquarters. This hybrid role requires at least three days onsite, offering the perfect blend of collaboration and flexibility.
As a Design Engineer, you’ll partner across disciplines—Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical Sciences, Marketing, and Project Management—to drive success. With supervision and guidance, you’ll have the chance to work on cutting-edge systems and play a pivotal role in designing and delivering next-generation spine devices that truly make a difference.

What You Will Do
- Design & Development: Assist in designing, developing, modifying, and verifying mechanical components for medical devices under supervision.
- Prototyping & Testing: Support prototyping and bench testing activities to validate designs.
- Problem Solving: Contribute to root cause analysis and evaluate solutions against requirements.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct studies and research to support product design decisions.
- Customer & Clinical Insight: Interpret customer needs and understand product use and clinical procedures.
- Compliance & Documentation: Learn and apply industry standards, regulatory requirements, and design controls; assist in creating engineering documentation such as Design History Files.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management to ensure project success.
- Professional Growth: Demonstrate ownership, integrity, and teamwork while learning processes, systems, and building strong relationships.
What You Need
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, BioMedical, or related discipline.
- 0+ years of work experience
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and tools, design principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of design and concept generation CAD or CAE modeling tools (ProE, Creo or SolidWorks preferred)
- Basic knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods
- Technical ability to create, read, and interpret engineering drawings and models, applying GD&T and CAE tools.
- Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods
