Nature Of Work
This position performs supervisory level work in support of the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment plant. Directs the proper and efficient operation of the plant and responsible for meeting all required governmental quality and production standards. Delegates routine cleaning, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment plant and equipment among operators. Position typically manages a team of employees and schedules the on-going work activities of a function to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Position requires an advanced understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in assigned function or business area. Exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures.

Duties And Responsibilities

- Direct and supervise the daily operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant(s).
- Direct and coordinate work assignments of subordinate staff; reviews and verifies work for accuracy and completeness; observes and evaluates employees’ performance.
- Maintain administrative and regulatory records and reports of plant operations.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies; submits reports to all appropriate governing agencies.
- Evaluates assigned personnel for efficiency and effectiveness; initiates personnel actions of hiring, promotion, discipline, termination, training, and development; resolves or refers personnel problems or grievances; directs and assigns work to employees that report to them; and provides technical support and guidance in their work activities.
- Inspect plant equipment and machinery to determine proper operation; make repairs and adjustments.
- Formulate and update process control strategies.
- Operate computers to monitor equipment and schedules, record maintenance activities, and produce reports.
- Recommend contractual arrangements for testing, disposal, and maintenance by outside agencies.
- Develop budget proposals and capital project plans.
- Review plans for plant upgrades; meets with consultants and contractors when necessary.
- Interpret and communicate work procedures and company policies to others in the department.
- Ensure personnel are trained in the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment, vehicles, machinery, and tools.
- Oversee the purchasing of equipment and supplies; always ensures adequate inventory of chemicals and supplies.
- Safeguard all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction and/or negligence.
- Facilitate weekly safety meetings.
- Remain in contact via company phone/radio at all times in the event of an emergency.
- Function on a rotating “on-call” basis for emergency response.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Statutes, rules, regulations, and ordinances related to operations of wastewater plants.
- Wastewater processing plant operation and maintenance standards, methods, materials, and equipment.

- Budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Modern office equipment and various computer programs and software applications.

- Monitoring telemetry system, alarms, and maintenance management program.
- Analyzing technical data and troubleshooting problems.
- Detecting and resolving mechanical and operational problems.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Skill in using math to solve problems.
- Plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Provide incentive, motivation, training, and leadership.
- Enforce Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree in wastewater technology or related field from an accredited college or university; supplemented by four (4+) or more years’ of progressively responsible experience in wastewater plant operations with supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
Licenses And/Or Certifications
- State of Florida Class “A” Wastewater Plant Operator’s license.
