This position will sit onsite in our Reading, PA office. 

Purpose

The Principal Electrical Engineer will support Substation and Transmission projects with a focus on electrical protection and control activities for Worley and its customers as part of the Power Networks team. This role supports new substations and switchyards, as well as modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of complex protection and control engineering assignments for both greenfield and brownfield Power Networks projects across multiple clients.
  • Prepare technical specifications and support procurement activities.
  • Develop engineering drawings, calculations, technical documents, and other project deliverables as required.
  • Provide technical direction and coordination for engineers with equal or less experience to support successful project delivery.
  • Execute work in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes, and industry standards while meeting schedule and budget requirements.
  • Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively with project team members and clients.
  • Perform independent technical reviews and audits of engineering work.
  • Support proposal development, including cost estimates, scope input, and technical content for client presentations.
  • Serve as a technical lead, resolving complex engineering issues and ensuring the quality and accuracy of deliverables.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment while maintaining the ability to work independently as required.
  • Interface with project management, internal technical teams, and clients.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to perform site walkdowns.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with applicable drafting standards and document control procedures.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Prior experience providing technical oversight or leadership on engineering projects.
  • Experience preparing project cost estimates and contributing to proposal development.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations, electrical codes, manufacturer standards, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency with standard office and engineering software tools, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage work independently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to support collaboration with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients.

Education, Qualifications, and Credentials

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 12 years of protection and control engineering experience for substations and switchyards, including experience with high-voltage facilities (500 kV and above).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States, or the ability to obtain licensure prior to the first day of employment.
