Why Your Role Matters:
The Marketing Director is a results-driven, hands-on leader responsible for driving excellence in marketing execution across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role focuses on leading high-impact marketing initiatives, setting standards, and improving how marketing work gets done. This role is responsible for converting the Chief Marketing Officer’s strategic vision into actionable frameworks, tactical plans, and disciplined execution that advance enterprise-wide objectives and drive growth in service to the Greater Austin communities.
This position is designed for an experienced marketer who thrives in a player-coach environment and cross-functional work through influence and collaboration.
This role is intentionally both strategic and executional. You will build plans and roll up your sleeves to bring them to life. You lead integrated marketing work across the portfolio, ensuring that projects and campaigns are insight-led, measurable, and optimized to drive acquisition, engagement, and revenue.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Lead the development, launch, and hands-on execution of integrated marketing campaigns that accelerate growth and community impact. Project focus can span membership growth, program participation, and philanthropic giving.
- Lead the complete marketing process for assigned projects and programs, from gathering insights and strategic planning to creative direction, execution, performance measurement, and ongoing optimization.
- Build data-informed audience strategies, select PESO channels, and ensure creative assets are tailored to platform performance.
- Analyze results, synthesize clear insights, and drive continuous optimizations.
- Demonstrates positive energy to effectively represent our brand internally and externally. Monitors brand compliance through all touchpoints to ensure consistency. Supports the Chief Marketing Officer, who is our brand’s lead storyteller, creating strategic narratives that convey the essence of our brand’s identity and purpose through all mediums from digital to traditional.
- Ensure consistency and integrity of the Greater Austin YMCA brand by conducting regular audits and maintaining strict adherence to brand guidelines.
- Collaborate with the CMO to elevate brand narratives and strengthen brand preference across the market.
- Lead the creation, execution, and optimization of innovative digital and traditional marketing campaigns that align with organizational objectives for revenue generation.
- Leverage digital trends, tools, and technology to build winning marketing plans that resonate with target audiences.
- Demonstrate a test and learn mindset to learn fast with tangible data to give confidence to scaling further.
- Develop new ways of engaging consumers to gain more attention in-center, near our centers and digitally in the market to attract more prospects and serve more of our community.
- Coach team members in marketing craft, executional excellence and problem solving.
- Identify and improve processes that elevate speed, quality, consistency, and innovation.
- Contribute marketing expertise to cross-functional projects and organization-wide initiatives.
- Work collaboratively across teams to bring org-wide priorities to life.
- Lead with clear communication, strong partnerships, and commitment to executional excellence.
- Organize workstreams, clarify expectations, guide contributors, and coordinate cross-functional efforts to ensure timely, effective delivery.
- Help shape and strengthen the future-state marketing function, contributing to how the team grows in capability and structure.
- Represent the YMCA at key community events and networking opportunities, building lasting relationships that deepen our presence and impact in the community.
- Lead innovative community outreach initiatives, such as events and strategic partnerships, to strengthen the YMCA’s connection with members and the broader community.
- Participate in Association events and contribute marketing expertise to organizational projects and initiatives as assigned by the Chief Marketing Officer.
What You Bring to the Y
You possess a proven track record of successful marketing results. Your can-do attitude and creative problem-solving skills make you an influential leader, continually achieving outstanding outcomes in marketing. To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business development, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in marketing with a high degree of cross-functional team projects.
- 1–2 years of experience leading or managing a marketing team or project teams.
- Proven track record in nonprofit marketing is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth in competitive markets utilizing digital and traditional marketing to drive acquisition and retention.
- High familiarity with brand development planning, innovation, and creative development processes.
- Strong experience in brand foundational tools, consumer insight identification, segmentation, and target audience development.
- Concept and brief writing of innovation, product renovation or commercial news.
- Ability to pull insights from multiple sources and synthesize them into compelling stories for change.
- Entrepreneur mindset who finds ways to break down growth barriers, pivot and perform in changing market dynamics.
