Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with senior engineers to develop mechanical deliverables and supports all phases of design, including planning, feasibility, concept development, detailed design, construction documentation, and construction administration. This role involves executing intermediate-level tasks, coordinating across disciplines, and mentoring junior staff while expanding expertise in complex mechanical systems such as HVAC and mechanical utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of mechanical deliverables under the guidance of Lead or Senior Mechanical Engineers.
  • Execute multiple intermediate-level tasks and delegate basic assignments to entry-level and design staff.
  • Support design programming, master planning, and development of construction drawing packages and specifications for projects of limited complexity.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reporting.
  • Mentor Mechanical Designer I and contribute to team commitment to quality deliverables.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting.
  • Completion or pursuit of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system design, including related calculations.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical/plumbing/fire codes, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience conducting field surveys and preparing reports.
  • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design accreditation preferred.
