Job Summary

The incumbent of this position brings advanced tax knowledge, broad experience, and acknowledged coordinating ability to the Foreign National Payment Process. This position requires a strong taxation background, analytical skills, a technical (systems) background, and a mature communications style. The ability to organize, influence others, solve problems, and work with minimal supervision is expected of the incumbent, who needs to balance both production tasks and Foreign National payee or payment requesting Departmental personnel interactions or queries.

Essential Functions

- Responsible for MGB's foreign national payment process for the non-employee foreign national suppliers.

- Work with the accounts payable department / supply chain to identify and apply correct tax rates to foreign national suppliers.

- Determine correct income tax withholding based on individual's tax residency status, activity type, and payment amount.

- Assist with U.S. income tax treaty exemption and tax withholding documents.
Act as a resource for international scholars and other suppliers with U.S. tax questions.

- Approve / question / request more information for invoice requests prior to payments being issued.

- Review payments processed through accounts payable / supply chain.

- Reconcile the tax withholding from the payment report to the trial balance and the weekly tax deposit.

- Reconcile the monthly tax withholding, prepare amounts for journal entries for re-class entries of tax payments.

- Prepare journal entry to re-class withholding among companies and MGB to offset withholding amounts with amounts paid.

- Work collaboratively with other members of MGB Finance.

- Work with the payroll department to update 1042-S forms to reflect appropriate nonresident income tax withholdings or exemptions.

- Assume responsibility for special projects.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting required or related field of study required
  • Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Payroll experience 3-5 years required
  • Foreign National Tax experience 3-5 years strongly preferred

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to research issues and process complex transactions and procedures.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills, along with confidence and experience in presenting to small groups.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing and conflicting demands on time.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess the ability to thrive in a busy, high-volume, and deadline-driven team environment that requires the coordination of multiple activities and judgment and flexibility to reprioritize tasks as needed.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
