A Day in the Role
Your day will start with team leadership—coaching and mentoring automation engineers, reviewing progress, and aligning priorities with RTGS senior management. You’ll design and maintain automation scenarios for functional, system, integration, end-to-end, and security testing using frameworks like Karate. You’ll analyse test results, identify bottlenecks, and recommend optimisations. You’ll also lead performance testing using JMeter and LoadRunner, contribute to the performance test strategy, and drive process improvements. Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with developers, architects, and product teams, and actively participate in recruitment to grow the team.

Minimum Criteria
We’re looking for someone who has the following key skills and experience:
- Demonstrable hands-on test automation experience using various leading automation tools.
- Proficiency in using testing tools such as Eggplant Functional, API testing tools like SOAP UI, Postman.
- Experience writing System, Functional, E2E, API, security, and UI test scripts using Karate framework.
- Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Knowledge of middleware systems/message queuing systems like Kafka, IBM MQ and ACE.
Essential Criteria
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have the following capabilities:
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and application monitoring tools like Control M.
- Knowledge and experience of using tools like SonarQube, Fortify, Twistlock and Xray for vulnerability scans as part of security testing.
- A broad knowledge of software architecture technologies such as XBRL, HTML, VB, .NET, XML, Java, Web Services, SOA, SOAP, Unix/Linux, SAP, Oracle, SQL, and SharePoint is highly desirable.
- Solid grasp of the Oracle Database architecture and experience in generating Tableau reporting queries.
- Strong analytical skills and confident in learning complex business processes involving the complex integration of several systems.
- Effective collaboration skills to work seamlessly with diverse teams.
- Coaching & mentoring skills to help and shape the automation team
Desirable Criteria
It would also be beneficial, but not necessary, to have some of the following:
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other relevant fields.
- ISTQB / ISQI / ISEB Foundation level qualification

Salary and Benefits Information
We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.
We offer a salary as follows:
Leeds circa £49,360 - £55,530
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
- Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time.
- A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
- An 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
- 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
- Private medical insurance and income protection.
