We are pleased to welcome applications from seasoned quality engineer professionals for a key role in our Melbourne-based specialist engineering operations.

Reporting to the Operations Manager and based at the QinetiQ Engineering and Technology Centre (QTEC) in Port Melbourne, you’ll be recognised as a subject matter expert and responsible for maintaining our manufacturing quality documentation and procedures.  In addition, you will act as the Quality Engineer for projects delivered through the facility and have an important part to play in helping QTEC and its DASR 21G Military Aviation Production Organisation grow in the scale and variety of R&D support and production projects and customers that it serves. What an opportunity!

In More Specific Detail, You’Ll:

  • Maintain the QTEC Quality Management Plan and Procedures
  • Lead activities to ensure work conducted maintains compliance with ISO 9001 and Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) Subpart 21G Military Production Organisation Approval
  • Perform the role of Quality Manager for DASR Subpart 21G production requiring a Form 4 approval
  • Conduct supplier evaluations and Quality Management System audits
  • Provide quality advice during the design and development phase of products
  • Develop and maintain product specific quality, test and inspection plans
  • Assist and where required, lead change and configuration management activities for production artifact
  • Conduct quality inspections on projects delivered through the facility and on supplier provided parts and assemblies
  • Maintain traceability of products, completed inspections and tests within an MRP and document retention system 
  • Review production documents against certified inputs for accuracy and suitability
  • Prepare and approve quality reports and certificate of conformance for finished goods
  • Lead the facility response to potential product defects through failure analysis and provide corrective and preventative actions to the projects and provide monitoring and reporting of defects or warranty claims through to resolution

In terms of skills, qualifications and experience, we seek:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent coupled with demonstrated post qualification experience working in a Quality Engineer/ Manager role
  • Lead Auditor experience (both internal and external)
  • Experience in the implementation of quality standards and requirements in a manufacturing environment and in developing/reviewing production documentation
  • Experience in using Lean techniques
  • Experience in achieving and maintaining ISO9001 accreditation
  • Experience in 3D CAD packages and an understanding of 2D GD&T drawings
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated knowledge in problem solving, root cause and statistical analysis

Whilst not essential, previous experience with metrology (CMM/Faro Arm or similar tools) and/ or previous aviation industry experience will be well regarded.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold Australian citizenship and be eligible for Australian Defence security clearance.
