We are a growing organization seeking a talented Lead Process Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA.
Job Summary
The Lead Process Engineer will provide support to the Process Engineering Group by providing technical training and mentorship to early career engineers. Along with the Process Engineering Supervisor, the Lead Process Engineer will also play a key role in identifying and leading the implementation of improvement initiatives in the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-the-job technical training and mentorship to enhance the capabilities of the refinery process engineers
- Assist the refinery process engineers in advanced troubleshooting situations
- Identify formal training opportunities for the refinery process engineers based on units that are assigned, years of experience, etc.
- Help manage and improve the Process Engineering Group's engineering tools which include unit process simulations, daily molecule management reports, long term equipment health monitoring, unit mass and heat balances, etc.
- Manage strategic technical initiatives that require knowledge across multiple process units
- Assist refinery process engineers with strategic turnaround scope justification that will allow for improved unit reliability, efficiency, capacity, yield, or run length
- Identify potential process engineering related projects that would yield a high return on investment (ROI). Submit capital project one pagers to build inventory of potential capital projects
- Lead or participate in key incident investigations that resulted in significant Loss Profit Opportunity, safety, or environmental incident in the refinery
- Backfill Process Engineering Supervisor
Job Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent required
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a refining and supply environment with at least 2 cumulative years of plant experience
Strong Leadership Skills
- Ability to set daily/weekly/monthly priorities for work group
- Prior process engineering experience
- Able to lead a group of early career process engineers in the petrochemical/refining industry and develop future leaders for the organization
- Understanding of refining technologies such as the following: Crude Oil Distillation, Coking, Reforming (Semi-Regen and CCR), Hydrotreating (Naphtha, Diesel, Gas Oil), Fluid Catalytic Cracking, HF Alkylation, Hydrocracking, Aromatics Recovery)

The salary range for this position is $88,424.81 - $156,910.67. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. Salaries at the time of hire are typically in the lower to middle portion of the above range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect future performance-based increases. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
