The Opportunity

We’re now looking for a Senior Commercial Lawyer to act as a key commercial advisor to our Australian business, with a specific focus on our Victorian operations.

This is a pivotal role where you will support the delivery of product innovation, strategic initiatives, and internal policy, ensuring the timely delivery of quality outcomes for the business.

Reporting to the General Manager – Legal Australia, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice and best practice legal support.

What You’Ll Do

• Manage key transactions, including land acquisitions, divestments, and developments, by negotiating term sheets and contracts, managing due diligence, and overseeing settlements.
• Drive construction and consultancy matters, preparing, drafting, and reviewing changes to construction, services, and consultancy documents.
• Oversee leasing and sales, reviewing term sheets, preparing legal briefs, and negotiating agreements for lease and estate land sales contracts.
• Partner with the business, working closely with new business representatives to find a way to ‘yes’ for customers while managing appropriate levels of legal risk.
• Manage external relationships, working closely with external legal panel providers to deliver effective legal services to the business.
• Support major projects, assisting the General Manager – Legal Australia with major projects across the group and providing general legal advice as required.
• Simplify the complex, breaking down legal concepts and issues for discussion with senior leaders to facilitate effective decision-making.

What You’Ll Bring

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission to practice.
• At least 10 years of legal or paralegal experience, ideally at Senior Associate level in a top or mid-tier commercial firm, or an in-house team with a property focus.
• Established capital transaction experience and a strong understanding of core transaction principles.
• Excellent drafting skills with a demonstrated ability to draft logically and simply.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen and the ability to work alongside business teams and "talk their language".
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and DocuSign, with experience using online data rooms such as Intralinks and Ansarada.
• A collaborative and respectful approach, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
