Overview:
System Administrators (SA) will be required to have privileged access to the system and therefore are part of the Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF). SA’s shall possess the necessary skills, expertise and certifications to implement and maintain effective cybersecurity controls, as specified in this TDL, and in accordance with relevant industry standards and guidelines, including NIST SP 800-53 rev5 and AR 25-2. All SA’s shall possess an in-depth understanding of Cyber concepts and processes and apply this knowledge to implement the system cybersecurity requirements and SA duties. Specifically, the SA will demonstrate proficiency in system administration, patching, and implementation of security procedures including basic cyber assessment, the ability to analyze system vulnerabilities, and provide authoritative advice and guidance related to system.
Job Description:
- The SA’s responsibilities include maintaining the TADSS local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers.
- Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems.
- Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.
- Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses as they are released from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
- May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software at OEM request. *Assignments and job duties may include fact finding analysis, development of work processes and procedures, preparing detailed reports, supervise and define objectives, and define priorities, maintenance activities that involve the need for administrative passwords.
- SA shall provide “over-the-shoulder” assistance to the user and operator, as requested.
Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain network and computer Information Assurance systems security.
- Evaluate and optimize network and system performance.
- Assign and update security permissions on a Linux network.
- Review and interpret Linux log files.
- Review and interpret Windows event files.
- Manage Virtual Machines on Linux and Windows Hosts.
- Maintain Network Attached Storage RAID array.
- Perform and manage backups.
- Ensure TADSS connectivity to central computer network, this includes rotating laptops, servers, compute kits, and any other subcomponent required to be connected to the network for updates and to follow local network connection business rules as required. This includes equipment that is not set up for operation but still in shipping cases.
- The SA shall be capable of providing TADSS instruction as requested by local and Area of Responsibility (AOR) units IOT train Soldiers/Civilians on STE operation IAW Government provided NET training products. TADSS instruction supports Logistics Sustainment element, Training.
- Support Point of Need operations to include providing maintenance and SA support during PON deployed operations conducted IAW the Army National Guard and Army Reserve scheduled training events.
Support three primary missions (Steady-state Training Support, Point of Need operations, and Surge Support).
Steady-State Training Support:
- Assist Soldiers in planning training exercises within the TMT software, ensuring proper coordination and alignment of training equipment and RVCT modules to prepare for execution.
- Initialize and manage the local RVCT training network, conduct troubleshooting of RVCT modules to verify connectivity and functionality.
- Provide over-the-shoulder assistance to Soldiers as required, and support exercise control functions such as roleplay, and intelligence reporting.
- Facilitate the After-Action Review (AAR) process and deliver a comprehensive take-home package capturing key lessons learned from the training event.
In The Assessment Phase:
*Provide an After-Action Review for Soldiers to execute, and a take home package of any lessons learned during the training.
Point Of Need Training:
- Oversee the preparation of equipment for shipment.
- Verify transportation to the Point of Need location.
- Oversee the setting up of equipment and RVCT modules. Initialize and troubleshooting systems to ensure full functionality.
- Deliver over-the-shoulder training support to Soldiers during the exercise and provide direct exercise support as required.
- Provide an After-Action Review (AAR) and comprehensive take-home package.
- Upon termination, oversee preparation of equipment for return shipment.
- Re-establish equipment at the original location to ensure readiness for future use.
Surge Support:
- Provide additional personnel by shifting resources from other locations to meet training requirements that exceed the current site’s personnel capacity.
- Support may scale up to 28 RVCT modules or two companies. Surge support will be temporary to support the training exercise at that site.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Monitors and manages ACAS, HBSS, and D-GSA system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain the STE Device systems operating efficiency.
- Sets up administrator accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system wide software and allocates mass storage space.
- Monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
- Installs and maintains all program software and hardware installs.
- Provides patches and security compliance for installed applications and operating systems.
- Performs STE Device hardware installs and configuration; COTS SW installs; security patching; hardware maintenance; and user accounts.
- Maintains all Active Directory actions such as account creation, auditing, profile configuration, security permissions, file structure and organization, and exchange configuration.
Travel:
Travel will be required up to 30% of time to include OCONUS
Degree(S)/Years Of Experience:
(2 +BA/BS or 1+MA/MS) or (4 +AA) or (6+No Degree).
Certification(S):
DoD 8570 IAT II / 8140 Certification
Desired Experience:
- Experience in monitoring and managing ACAS, HBSS, and D-GSA system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain the systems operating efficiency.
- Experience in setting up administrator accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.
