Your Role:
Reporting to the VP Finance, you have a leading role in the Finance & Accounting team and are responsible for the oversight of Global Relay’s procurement, accounts payable, forecasting, and treasury functions. This role ensures effective management and oversight of financial operations that support enterprise-wide initiatives with a focus on being a proactive and responsible business partner in a high growth environment. Your peer is another Director, Finance who oversees financial reporting, revenue and receivables, tax and payroll. You will work together to drive efficiency and scale, strengthen internal controls, and align financial operations within Global Relay’s broader strategic and fiscal objectives.
Your Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of financial strategies, policies, and processes that support Global Relay’s strategic and operational goals
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting, ensuring integration with procurement, AP, and treasury functions
- Drive cost optimization and process efficiency across all financial operations
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls across the Finance & Accounting team, with specific focus on the procurement, AP, and treasury functions
- Foster a culture of integrity, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Partner with executive leadership and department heads to ensure financial alignment with business strategy
- Utilize data analytics to enhance decision-making, reporting, and performance tracking across financial operations
Vendor Success
- Oversee the Financial Procurement (titled ‘Vendor Success’ at Global Relay) function, including vendor assessment and onboarding, expenditure request triaging and review, analysis of financial elements of vendor contracts, and vendor performance management
- Collaborate with Legal to optimize the Vendor Success function within Global Relay to ensure procurement is transparent, efficient, and scalable as the business grows
- Oversee negotiation of supplier contracts and new spend requests, focusing on cost-effectiveness and ROI of initiatives
- Collaborate with internal departments to forecast procurement needs and align purchasing strategies and processes with business objectives
- Own the evaluation of suppliers at Global Relay, including providing recommendations for cost reduction, risk management, and other pertinent vendor KPIs
Accounts Payable
- Provide director-level oversight to the Accounts Payable function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all payment processes
- Establish and refine policies, workflows, and system processes to promote efficiency and accuracy focused on scaling within a high growth environment
- Supervise vendor management practices, including vendor assessment, intake, setup and maintenance within financial systems
- Leverage deep knowledge of the Vendor Success processes to ensure maximum optimization and integration of procure-to-pay processes from inception (purchase request) to termination (payment to vendor)
Treasury
- Oversee daily cash management and liquidity needs to ensure adequate runway for operational and strategic needs
- Manage banking relationships alongside other senior Finance & Accounting leadership
- Lead initiatives to optimize working capital and ensure efficient and timely deployment of capital within the business
Other
- Involvement in other cross-functional projects and tasks – both within and outside of Finance & Accounting – will be required given the diversity of scope of duties within this role
About You:
- Qualified professional accountant (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with a strong work ethic and integrity
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance in leadership roles of similar level and scope of responsibilities
- Experience in full cycle accounting in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry is an asset
- Demonstrated success leading finance operations within a complex organization, including experience implementing scalable financial systems, process automation, and internal controls
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience in researching and preparing technical accounting memos
- Advanced level MS Excel proficiency, with advanced knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and time manage
- Inspirational people leader with a proven ability to develop, mentor, and engage high-performing finance teams
- Impeccable accuracy with numbers and attention to detail
- Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise, and formal business communications
- Clear understanding of financial KPIs for SaaS businesses is an asset
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
- Familiarity with NetSuite accounting system and Salesforce CRM system is an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply cognitive thinking is a must
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia’s pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values.
