Welcome to HotDoc! đź‘‹
Founded in Melbourne in 2012, HotDoc is Australia’s leading patient engagement platform, supporting over 4,000 medical centres and enabling more than 12 million Australians to better connect with their healthcare.
We’re on a mission to create the best possible patient experience for everyone in Australia. Our platform helps clinics run smoothly, reduce admin burdens, and ultimately deliver better health outcomes.
We’re looking for a Junior to Mid Level Product Designer to join our team. You’ll play a hands-on role designing experiences that make a real difference in how Australians access and receive healthcare.
Role Purpose & Context
At HotDoc, our mission is to enable the best possible patient experience for everyone in Australia. The Junior–Mid Product Designer plays an important role in that mission, helping design simple, accessible, and high-quality product experiences that support both patient care and clinic efficiency. You will contribute hands-on design execution, grow your product thinking, and bring empathy and creativity to solving real problems in healthcare.
In This Role You Will:
Design user flows, interfaces, and interactions that improve how clinics run and how patients access care.
Partner closely with Design leaders, Product Managers, Engineers, and Researchers to shape solutions that balance user needs, technical constraints, and delivery timelines.
Contribute to HotDoc’s design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and usability across our platform.
Support and sometimes lead scoped design projects end-to-end, from exploration and research through to execution, QA, and iteration.
Why Join Hotdoc?
Join a purpose-driven team where your work directly impacts practices and patients across Australia. As our Junior Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring every interaction with HotDoc drives better care.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Exciting challenges, impactful work: Be part of innovative projects that improve the patient experience and streamline practice operations. Every day, you’ll see how your efforts contribute to better healthcare outcomes.
- Collaborative environment: Work with a supportive team that thrives on shared successes and continuous improvement.
- Autonomy with Support: Enjoy the freedom to own your accounts and make impactful decisions, with your leader and team always there to back you up.
What will you be doing?
- No day is the same in this role but in a typical month, you will be responsible for the following:
- Design clear, user-friendly flows, interfaces, and interactions that help clinics run smoothly and patients access care with ease.
- Contribute to and help evolve HotDoc’s design system to ensure consistent, accessible, and high-quality experiences across the platform.
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, and Researchers to shape solutions that balance user needs, design quality, and delivery constraints.
- Prepare your designs for delivery, including specs, edge cases, and clear documentation, while collaborating with engineers through build and QA
- Participate in user interviews, usability testing, and discovery activities—sometimes shadowing senior designers, other times running smaller sessions yourself
- Translate research insights and feedback into actionable design improvements and iterations.
- Present your work in design critiques and reviews, clearly communicating your decisions and incorporating feedback to strengthen outcomes.
- Take ownership of scoped design projects, driving them end-to-end with support from your Design Lead.
- Work hand-in-hand with developers during delivery, helping to clarify interactions, refine details, and address any questions that arise along the way.
What you must have to apply for this role
- 1–3 years of experience as a Product, UX, or UI designer in a team environment (or equivalent through training/project work).
- A portfolio that demonstrates thoughtful design decisions, attention to detail, and impact on user experience (student or side projects welcome if well-documented).
- Proficiency in Figma, with the ability to create high-quality designs and communicate your process.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teammates such as Product Managers and Engineers through delivery.
- An understanding of usability and accessibility principles, and a curiosity to apply them in practice.
- Strong communication skills—you can explain your design decisions and welcome feedback.
You’re just the person we’re looking for if you can demonstrate that
- You’re mission-driven, with a genuine passion for improving patient outcomes and healthcare experiences.
- You bring empathy and curiosity to your work, always asking the right questions to uncover user needs.
- You’re proactive, taking ownership of scoped projects and following through to delivery.
- You’re adaptable and resilient in a fast-moving environment, open to iteration and change.
- You collaborate openly, building trust and valuing diverse perspectives in problem-solving.
- You’re eager to grow your craft, continuously learning and applying feedback to get better.
